I also vlog and make beauty videos so lighting is important. I've set my equipment up by a window and try to film during the day. During the evening or in low light I have two bedside lights on, my bedroom light and a desklight pointing towards a white wall, the light reflected from the bounce back is usually enough (not great for beauty vids but okay for vlogging). I've just bought some lighting equipment, waiting for it to arrive so will know more about light set up soon
My tips
- Film during the day
- Try not to have harsh light above or below you, otherwise shadows will cast on your face
- Use clear lighting where possible, as some lights give off an unflattering yellow tone
- Do not film directly in the sun, one of my recent videos shows an example of this and I'm glowing like some sort of alien.
- Research lighting positions and move them around until you get the perfect spot
- Work with what you have but start saving for better equipment as your channel grows to improve quality
