Lighting advice?

Rachael

I Love YTtalk
I really don't know much about lighting and I am looking for some advice. I film in front of a bunch of windows and I usually have to close some of them because it's too bright. I don't have any regular house lamps, for some reason my house just doesn't have any and the overhead lighting is pretty bad. Light only shines brightly through those windows in the morning, so that's usually when I film, but because of that the back of my shot is pretty dark. What should I do???

Omg I am laughing! Only because I use windows as sunlight too!! Ugh I thought I was the only one! Invest in buying some lights on amazon. Pretty cheap but good ones run about $35-$50.

What I have are these super bright LED lights you can get at Costco for like 30 bucks.

I do that too! But I seen an article on how to improve selfies and it's basically using a white piece of paper below the video to make the light bounce, so I'm thinking.. can it work for videos too? I personally haven't tried it so I thought I'd tell you x

For those of you with lots of light from windows you can use that but you need to defuse it. Search for how to diffused window light. You may only need to buy some cheap reflectors or a screen (scrim jim) to diffuse the light. Natural light is best and it is free.

Garden fleece used for plant tunnels makes a good diffuser and is cheap.

I did a facecam video a LONG time ago, and the thing I did was tape paper onto a desk lamp for soft light. Worked out really well (not even joking, it looked professional)

DON'T LEAVE THE LAMP ON UNLESS YOU WANT TO BURN YOUR HOUSE TO THE GROUND.

Try those Photo Studio lights, you can find some very cheap!
Search "Lighting Kit/Photo Lighting" .
If you need a company for that I recommend "Neewer"
They are like 15$ for one.

Setting up your own lights will be best for you, you create the lighting you need and have more control over it than daylight. I would get a cheap softbox kit for the types of videos you do.
