Lets Talk About the Rating System

I don't know about you guys, but I greatly hate the rating system. Most people on this forum are likely smaller YouTubers, and I think we all know what it's like to get disliked spammed for zero reason. If you ask me, I think they should either just remove the dislike button, or make the person right an explanation for their dislike. The rating system is supposed to be there for constructive criticism, not spamming to make a creator look bad. At the end it makes smaller channels go no where because the trolls. With an explain, let's say someone's dislike reason is "aaaaaaaaaa" just to get the dislike to go through, then you can flag it and get the dislike removed. I think we need a revamp to implement the dislike button for an actual reason. Of course you could always remove the ratings off your video, but that's stupid. You shouldn't have to compensate for trolls.

I have never been dislike spammed, most likely because I am so small. In fact, i have never even gotten a dislike. But your system sounds awesome, because then we would know what to improve on.
 
If someone is pressing the dislike button it still goes through YouTube's algorithm as channel traffic. So whether its a thumbs up or thumbs down, it doesn't matter as far as YouTube is concerned. So embrace the traffic. Even though trolls are super annoying. I agree though, the dislike button is kinda dumb. It would be cool if they had to leave a comment why they dislike, except I would delete all those anyway haha.

That's why I believe if they made it a requirement is to why, then it would be a little more of a better system. Especially if you can flag the dislike reason if it's just a troll or false reason. Even if they didn't clearly link a comment to a dislike, it'll still be nice, because then there's a forced comment to provide feedback. I still think it's pretty dumb you can't view who disliked your video. Then we'd all know whether or not it's trolling or not.

Yes, it is traffic, but I want honest ratings, so when people come across my channel, they expect well. Ratings are taken very serious by viewers, which makes it an issue for creators. I don't know, to me, just the like button should be fine. If a video is thumbs up a lot, its a good video. If it has 10,000 views with 10 likes, it's likely not.
 
It's indeed pretty pointless ... Not really sure why they added it in the first place I feel like even having a system similar to Facebook's feelings would be better
 
The dislike button, in theory, is a really useful tool. So I do music reviews, and that is my niche and that is what my followers want to see. Now let's say I one day upload call of duty footage, and that video gets a ton of dislikes. Then i, as a creator, would know what my audience wants to see. Obviously dislike spammers are annoying, but once you get larger, the amount of dislikes you get are going to be a small number anyways. In the beginning, it might be annoying but it isn't something bad since it does increase traffic.

Yeah, if you disagree, simply leave a comment. Either that, or give creators the option to disable the dislike feature. Clickbait is clickbait, it shouldn't require a rating system if people are going to click off it anyways. I tend to read comments as videos start, so I get an idea of what's going on.

I could see how a rating system would be useful for you. I'll just give you an example of how the system is abused. In analytics, you can get down almost to point of who it is, but you can't get in depth. With that being said, it provides you with a lot of information. I have a subscriber that legit dislikes every video I put up. It's quite clear he's subscribed so he can hop on my video to dislike it and leave. It's especially obvious when they have 5 seconds of watch time. That's the stuff I'm talking about. Even if your viewers may not want to watch COD, I don't believe you deserve a bad looking rating on the video simply because they don't want to see it. If they don't want to watch it, they can simply not watch it at all, or unsubscribe if they don't like that you post something different once and a while.
