Lenses

It really depends on the "look" that you want. The kit lens which is typically a 18-55mm which looks nice, but does not give any depth of field. In general, zoom lenses do not live great depth of field, but are more versatile.

Prime lenses (no zoom) have a depth of field effect, which I personally like. Depth of field is the blurred background but focused subject. The most common prime lens is the "Nifty Fifty" (50mm). I use this lens for my vlog videos and like the look that it gives. However, keep in mind that if your DSLR is "crop sensor" (google to see if the model is), you will have to take that into account because it changes the focal length. For example, a 50mm lens on a regular camera would appear as 50mm. If it's a crop sensor, the 50mm will look more like a 65 or 70mm lens (depending on the model.

Majority of cams come with the standard 18-55mm lens which is what I got with my Canon 600d, it works well but in low lighting a small shoe box light will work great with it (what I use) I got it on amazon for around 30 pound, other lenses such as the canon prime 50mm f/1.8 would work perfectly forwhat I do just they are more expensive!!
