Kipkay announces he's adding content to Vessel

Now, a week later, his subscription rate has returned to normal.
I watched this to see if there was a negative effect of trying to get YouTube subscribers over to Vessel. It was nothing against him in particular.

In watching the video again, I can see why it rubbed some people the wrong way.

He announces that he is celebrating his 8th Anniversary on YouTube next month but yet, if you're a 'super fan', he wants you to go somewhere else to see the content first.

I do understand the previous commentary about calling viewers 'super fans'. It's not my style to refer to my audience like that and I can see how it is a manipulative tactic.

 
Well, to be fair, if I had 8 years of dealing with Youtube's garbage CPMs I'd want to cash in too.

I don't know why that upsets people so much. Everyone wants their favorite Youtubers to be "full time Youtubers" so they can get content all the time, but any mention of money or actually figuring out how you LIVE off of content creation is met with derision and hate. The ONLY way someone can go full-time is if THEY MAKE ENOUGH MONEY AT IT! No one seems to understand full-time content creators work 60-80 hour weeks, and often make less than minimum wage. Not to mention if you have one video go badly that week all of a sudden a lot of bills can't be covered and stuff. But you can't talk about that or it's "greedy" or a "cash grab".

I swear, the entitlement is unreal sometimes. I'm subbed to a channel that makes ~10 minute videos about cars EVERY DAY (which is a lot harder than say, gaming). I saw in the comments the other day "You should upload 2-3 videos a day"
It's like no one even understands how content creation works lol
 
Everyone knows making money is evil and anyone who does it deserves to lose all their subscribers.
 
I honestly don't know why someone would pay to get a youtube video beforehand..
I guess if you're a fan of A LOT of youtubers and are obsessed with their videos (people who keep refreshing the sub feed to see when a video pops up) then it's worth it
 
I have no problem with people putting their content on other sites. I'm looking to do the same thing. That being said, I don't want to send my audience over to Vessel when I have a 1200+ catalog on YouTube.

It appears that his oldest video on Vessel is 9 months old. That means that he was one of the beta channels. (I applied but they denied me). At a glance, it looks like he has been co-uploading every video to each site.

I do know that his content is the kind that gets ripped and re-uploaded to Facebook (free-booting). That's views that he doesn't earn a dime from.

If he had said "I appreciate all of my fans and I've started uploading to a service so that if some of you want to see my content a little earlier and help support me at the same time, you can and I would appreciate it. Those who can't, I still love you guys...all of my fans made my channel what it is today and I appreciate all of you". That would have been fine with me.

Instead, he basically said - I have started uploading to another service so that my super fans can get my content earlier than the rest of the leeching peions who decide not to sign up for the new site. If you only support my channel by watching all of my videos for years and years and providing me hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad revenue, you aren't really the best fans...you're not super fans. That title is reserved for those who sign up for this service. -

When you start looking at your fans/subscribers purely as pieces of revenue that you can manipulate and guilt into making you more revenue then you are going down the wrong path. In my opinion he's a jerk.
