Just How Do I Efficiently Write, Script, an Edit Videos?

Well, it really is reassuring, the that it takes more than eight hours, on a single video. I just look at a lot of videos where the speaker can go on for over five minutes, and not seem to need any editing.

Is that just an editing trick, cuttin out "ums"? Do you know the kind of videos, I'm talking of? Long, topical monologues.

I twenty hours per video, more like it?

I would recommend using a phone or any device in which you can take notes, and write down brief topics (and details if youd like) that you'd like to discuss.

It could be something like,
New Hitman Game
- Release date
- Platforms
- Storyline etc.

I'd advise you to take your shot in one full take instead of having to merge many clips together in post. Even if you need to take a break to memorize what you want to talk about next, do not turn off the camera. You may edit that part out in post to make it seem as if nothing happened.

This way you can ramble, take time, and just edit the video later. All you need to do it split sections that you want to keep, and throw the others away.

Instead of just repeating parts to perfection, like I've been doing? I think I'll try it. Also--should I attach some notes next to the shooting camera? That should make them easier to glance at.

Evidently, you make practise before shooting, but not necessarily memorize. If it's something you enjoy speaking of, it should come naturally. However, this may not be the case; instead just look at the notes, and explain directly afterwards - you may edit that part out in post.

In all honesty, I'd advise not having the notes next to the camera as the audience may become distracted due to what you're looking at. If you're not looking directly at the camera, they may find that you aren't engaged.

People of course edit, but I assume that it takes them quite less than an hour for a PSA or anything of the sort. Videos such as Challenge videos while playing video games (I.E: everytime you die, you eat something gross) most likely takes under an hour. Personally, I don't know exactly - no one does.

I believe that eight to twenty hours per video is a long time. I don't know if that time includes research, writing, ideas, etc. or just filming. Regardless, I think that is a very long time. Practise makes perfect.

The five to ten minute videos on my channel were originally thirty minutes raw. I however only cut out the best parts, and the ones I find funny, and not necessarily the mess ups (although I do that as well, it's not why my videos are short).

As someone mentioned, the best way to do it, is do the whole thing in 1 video even if you mess up. Just keep rolling and edit it out later. The processing time to do that is much faster than joining clips. Not to mention if you need to , you can leave yourself cues in the video on where to cut so it's easier to find when you are actually editing. I sometimes do it the other way though, where you stop the clip and start a new one everytime you mess up. This means you are having to later join together 8-10 clips, remember the correct order they go in, and then also having to possibly go in an edit stuff in each clip. Obviously the best choice is to Nail it the first time everytime but it's not always possible. As for saying um, and stuff like that, it's not a huge deal unless you are saying ummm after every sentence. It's actually fairly easy to edit it out though without the audience knowing provided your not doing a massive movement change while your saying umm.

So, for you, it typically takes an hour to edit a five-minute segment? Interesting--I'll hafta examine your work...

Examined--not hard to see there isn't much editing. Frankly, you could use more, in my less-than-expert opinion.

It takes me under thirty minutes to get a finished ten minute video. In other words I record straight for thirty minutes and edit out bad/unfunny parts.
Editing the actual video takes anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple hours.

Set up a teleprompter.

You'll need to practice with the speed, but all you need is a monitor where the camera is pointed back at you. You could script each section to repeat so that you can do a full sitting with maybe 2-3 full recordings of the script. Then you just cut and slam them together.
