I've just been certified by YouTube in their "Audience Growth" track. Couple that with my practical experience and I'm feeling pretty good about my knowledge of the platform right now.

Anyone have a question they'd like ask? You're welcome to try to stump me!

Congrats :D I am doing the course in audience growth at the moment myself.

If there are three things a brand new channel should do to start gaining an audience on YouTube what should they be doing to help with their initial growth, a gaming channel for example that is completely fresh?

Thats all I can think of right now to get the ball rolling for you :D

That's great, @Michael. I thought the course was a great challenge.

Regarding your question: I'm grateful for the quiz, but I'm honestly not certain what answers your driving toward. So congrats, I guess you have me stumped?

Title/Thumb/Description optimization is what comes to mind, but I feel like you might be thinking about a different set of elements, like the ones used to develop the brand early on (creation story, creed, lingo, etc.)

Lol sorry about that, I was basically asking what 3 things would you recommend a new channel do to kick start their growth on YouTube, could be answered in loads of ways :D

I'm going to be lazy and not look this up and just ask, what's Audience Growth?

Ah, right on! Just an open-ended question. You had me sweating pretty hard there, scrambling through material looking for what I thought were the "keywords" in your question. Haha.

If I were sitting down with a newbie I'd stress the importance of the metadata and thumbnail. I'd also walk through community-building efforts (what social media to focus on, where to look for an audience) and, perhaps counterintuitively, I'd rightsize their expectations both in terms of early success and what's important to their growth. I don't want my creators burning out mentally.

Thanks again, Michael![DOUBLEPOST=1404166253,1404165221][/DOUBLEPOST]
I am intimidated sir.

Schucks, don't be! It's nice to have their seal of approval, but you can learn everything you need to know via their Playbooks and Creator Academy. The recent efforts to get their knowledge out to creators has been great.

Thanks! I'm pleased with myself. :)

yea, how do I get in? lol

Haha. Certification is invitation only right now, but if you search "YouTube Certification Program" you can find details.

Your YT or MNC rep might have the inside scoop as well, so you should ask them as well.

YouTube studies every element of their business under a microscope and have divided their studies into a few different categories. Audience Growth is all about (surprise!) growing your audience: making an appealing channel, a clearly defined and genuine brand, and then strategies for getting your content in front of as many people as possible. :)
