Do you think thats the case with trying to get big on YouTube?

For instance, Zoe Suggs (Zoella) brother Joe Sugg started a YouTube channel becasue his sister had one.

He has like 5million subs now....

Would he be as big as he is now if it wasnt for his sister? I want to say proabably not?


For somone that is new to YouTube like myself do you think I need to Collab with somone fairly big to get known? But this just wont happen as I dont know anyone.

Or do you think if your content is good / funny you will eventually get there?


people say promote your vidoes on social media, but what happnens if you don't have that many followers?

It's as if you need something to kick start your channel, and I dont know what that is.

I would happily pay someone big to collab with. Or pay somone to promote my channel. But woudnt know where to start with all that.

i think it definitely can help doing collaborations with other youtubers. it opens you up to a new user audience. but at then end of the day you need to have lots of good content on your youtube channel for them to actually hang around and possibly sub. so i think it makes sense to run your channel on your own for a length of time first. get lots of good content. so that when you do a collaboration, you have a good chance they will sub.

it also helps if your collab partner relates to your channel in someway, does the same stuff, plays the same games etc

I wouldn't like being 'big' because of a family member. I'd feel cheated. It's the same as being born into a rich family. You don't appreciate things as much. Reaching 1,000 subs and all the other milestones meant the world to me. If I was PewDiePie's brother though, if he had one (don't know), and got to 500,000 subscribers in a week because of him alone and not my content, I'd feel unfulfilled somehow.

My answer is in two-fold.

1) I think wholeheartedly you can still make it on YouTube without a huge shout-out or some viral video. Though I think its tough as hell and may take a long time, I think it's still possible.

2) People that get big from that type of thing p**s me off. I know SO MANY YouTubers that have a friend/relative/etc who started, they helped them simply because of that relationship, and they have millions of subs for what I consider sub-par content. I think knowing people is HUGE and that's why so many people say that by 1000 subs, you really should look into collaboration if you haven't already. It's all about networking now, finding people with a similar audience, sharing them, slowly building up to that next milestone where you can get a collab with someone else a little bigger.

Unfortunately, it is. That is why Facebook and Twitter are the worst forms of social media for an unknown person like you. Even if you have a number of friends, it is not going to work out unless you have mutual friends. Other than that, it is hard to get around on the Internet unless you have money and relationships.

The majority of people use social media. That is a fact. Only a small few people manually search and join other places such as the forums. You need to have connections, and unfortunately you cannot start on Facebook. My followings on the social media (the big three) is abysmal. YouTube itself is becoming overcrowded; you would have to pay a lot of money to gain some subscribers (fan finder), but even with that a lot of ads are getting blocked using adblocking software. This Internet is becoming extremely fragmented and too politically involved over the littlest things. You could be famous and gone the next. No one really knows the name of the guy who created the troll face. Now everything about the troll face is virtually nonexistent.

Connecting and making friends is hard to do, and it will not be replaced by Facebook most of the time (depends on your personality). Yttalk is better than the rest of what I have used, even though it is not the most perfect. A lot of people come and go here and try to make as many posts as possible to get the cash. Essentially all that falls apart too because there is no personal connection between people. I think a lot of people are starting to realize this psychological mechanism.

I don't condemn anyone for being "greedy", and I believe greed itself is actually an insecurity. Change always happens, and people worry over the littlest of things, and such things are prevalent in social media. It is an aspect of a poor human condition. If everyone had an opportunity to do what they love to do, nothing would worry them. Right now everyone is striving for the Next Big Thing. There will not be a Next Big Thing because all things will rise and fall. I don't know if they fade away, but the only True Big Thing can only lie within your decisions I typically remain reserved because of a deep rooted insecurity, but nonetheless I try not to blindly follow other people nor remain passive like a lot of people.

"Let us work together for a cause." That will not work out most of the time. Trust needs to be accounted for, especially on who you really are as a person. Things can easily get political. Do not ever create a cause that invokes hatred. Hatred will only bring hatred. I know it is a complicated issue, and expanding is not easy. But it can be done.

It will probably take ages to get big, but the better the quality of your content the more people will share it and repeatedly view your videos pushing up the watch time and therefore your position within the YouTube algorithm which will spur more views. But yeh of course it would help to get a shoutout from someone with more viewers, it's just getting that shoutout!

To get famous on YouTube, you need to make connections, collab with them, share your videos with all of your friends and relatives (if they are interested). Social media like Fb and Twitter do not help much unless you got followers to share your videos. If your videos have that unique entertainment, then definitely people are going to make you famous on YouTube.
I would suggest to make videos related to popular trends or use Google Keywords, it might help.

If only we could collaborate easily with big youtubers to get that boost. But I'd be willing to collab with anyone to grow my channel and if I have to grow slowly by myself then I'll enjoy the journey!

First thing you need is good content. If someone big promotes your channel but you don't have what people are looking for, you may get that single view from each person but they won't come back. As for not having a lot of followers, you can get around that by getting creative with promoting. I find sites with tons of followers that post content like mine and figure out how to get my material through to one of the admins or writers. This in a way is almost like a big YouTuber giving you a shoutout, if they post to their wall then everyone following them will see their post. This is how I get a majority of my views besides suggested video clicks. Here's an example of what happened when I used Twitter, I think I have 24 followers on Twitter. I like to keep this as a reminder that one good creative post can lead to a huge spike in views. So yeah, get creative! You just need to know who will want to watch your content and reach them. For me it's a bit easier because dog videos are easy to promote.
