Next week will be one year since I first started on Youtube and man, have I learned a lot. This forum has helped me more than anything else out there. One thing I noticed. Among the thousands of posts on here giving advice on how to improve subscriber numbers, views, and quality of videos, the one thing never mentioned is Personality. IMO, this is the single most important factor in making a video great. You can have the best ideas and the best camera quality but it won't mean a thing without a good delivery (personality).

It seems obvious that you must be outgoing but not everyone has what it takes, however, they can improve on it. Here's an example. Outside of baking, I'm a fitness freak. One of the personal trainers I know is very good at what he does. He has a lot of creative exercise ideas which would make a great fitness video series. Nicest guy and he's easy on the eyes too :);) But he's somewhat shy, has a low speaking voice and to be honest, is as boring to listen to as watching paint dry on a wall.

So when he expressed an interest to start his own Youtube page, I had to be honest in a nice way and told him to work on the personality. When I started out last year I was camera-shy. Now I'm a camera-hore. With that said, I watch my own videos and evaluate them to see where I too can improve on my personality.
 
Totally agree on that! Personality is what makes your channel unique and interesting! Nice post!
 
My personality has drawn many viewers to watch my channel. Also my gaming skills bring more subscribers to me. Personality is a must and it should be unique enough to gain subs and grow the channel. Off course personality should be bold and not boring. Audience just want to watch the entertainment and great personalities can attract those audience.

Yeah but nobody watches when you start so what better place to work on personality than in actual youtube videos, where you can look over your self and find out what to improve.

Not to mention expertise is as valuable as personality in different kind of channels. Take bigclivedotcom, I think that's the right name for the channel. He just trundles through his videos, doesn't have a compelling channel layout, branding and graphics or anything, yet he has 80k subs and lots of views.
 
Being an engaging speaker and presenter can also help in many other areas of life, such as work. People who know how to speak to anyone, aren't phased by being in front of a crowd or a camera, and know how to collect and present their thoughts in a coherent way are more likely to get better opportunities in business than those who are scattered, shy, or boring.
 
My personality has both helped and hindered me. You just gotta roll with what you've got. I'm crude and inappropriate, but now I have a subscriber base that enjoys that kind of stuff.
