Issues with anonymity

Curious World

I've Got It
It seems you can't take a whizz nowadays without every person in your phone contacts or email address book finding out about it! Every time you set up a social media account, page, blog, whatever - you can bet at some point everyone of your contacts who use social media sites will get a notification saying "Hey, your friend is on..."

I like to stay anonymous with my YT channel, as I know many of you do, so I've set up a new email and kept my phone number away from any social media interaction. I just don't want everyone and his brother knowing about my YT channel. I just don't think they'd get it. To the people who, like me, want to stay anonymous; has anyone else done this?

I did this, too, but probably for a slightly different reason... I've only told my parents about my music channel - I thought they should know. I think separating my normal life with YouTube has worked out okay for me, but since I also play music "in real life," YouTube and my personal life are starting to mix together... Some of the people I play music with said they found my channel, but they have been respectful about my privacy. I've kept my music separate from my main career, which was what I was primarily concerned about. One guy that I work with has convinced himself that I post videos, but he hasn't been able to find them. I don't think there would be anything wrong with people at work finding my videos -- I am more concerned about our clients from other cultures finding my videos. American's don't really care about what I do in my free-time, but I have no idea what a client from Sudan would think if they stumbled across my videos... I already have a difficult time gaining respect from people by looking really young, being soft-spoken, and being female in what most of the developing world still considers a "male job;" I didn't want to complicate things even more by throwing some artsy music into the equation... ^_^

I guess there will always come a time when someone's personal life and YouTube mix together, but so far everyone has been nice about it! ^^

Not really I am quite open with my channel but I don't really share it with people unless they ask or it comes up in conversation. My friends are not my target audience sadly.

I started out anonymous, but then I did a face reveal. It was the best thing I could have done. It allows me to interact with people and have fun without worrying about my face showing up in any of their videos.

Keep in mind that YT knows your IP and it will show your videos mainly in the neighborhood so once you show your face - most probably it is a matter of days or weeks before you are not anonymous anymore!

We are not anonymous - rather the opposite! :)
