Is this just a coincidence?

So I was looking through my analytics today and I saw that a lot of my views are from America. So I clicked on it and saw that most of my views, even subscriber views, are from the state that I live in. I have only told 4-5 friends about my channel, so it can't be that. Does Youtube's algorithm specifically put my videos up higher to people from my state or is this a coincidence???

The way YouTube's system works is that it promotes your video "where you live." (e.g., if you live in Europe, YouTube will show your videos to Europeans more than Americans)
Honestly it does get down to the state; city, maybe, even. My analytics say the same; most views from the state I live in.
Not a coincidence. :)

EDIT: Oddly enough, upon closer inspection, apparently tablets from the state I'm in has the longest view duration... o_________o

I think he asked because some states, like California or other populated states, would probably have high views anyway, whereas if she's from a smaller state like North Dakota, then it wouldn't explain it as well. But yeah, Youtube does make it more for where you're from.

I get about 300,000 views a month and roughly 10-20% of the views are from California alone. It's been a while since I checked but yeah it's always fascinated me.

Oh, and I live in Australia.
 
It's not a coincidence. Depending on the state you live, that's where you'll get most your views from because of Youtube's algorithm. I saw it somewhere before but I'm not sure where. Just like if you're from Sweden you would get more of your views from Sweden, Australia from Australia, etcetera etc.
