Is this a good idea??

Collab channels never really seem to work out unless it's like O2L where they're all big YouTubers. Relying on other people to make a video all the time sounds like a pain. I'd suggest referring to the channel as 20SomethingCollab since it's the actual name, to avoid confusing viewers.
apparently you haven't done your research and the point isn't to be big like o2l the point is to have fun and make friends.

Research: EVERY new collab channel I ever subscribed to, that wasn't made up entirely of people who were friends beforehand, vanished within a few weeks...

I'm definitely not trying to nay-say your idea or be a pessimist, but, i'm see some things in this proposal that are problematic to me, and i'm inclined to agree with @JustSomeGermanDude on this. The best day-of-the-week/collab channels that i've seen have been made up of people who work well together before the forming of the channel. You have to have a group of people who like each other and work well together. I don't think an audition process out the gate is going to necessarily get a group of friends who work well together and well off each other.

I've only seen a successful audition process once, in the 5AwesomeGays channel, and it was conducted by several current members of the channel. Strangers weren't the ones selected. The connection and contrast is so important to a collab channel. Sorry, maybe i'm missing something, but i'm not seeing that here...

You're welcome.
Anyways, I've watched a few small collab channels over the years and they always fall apart/stop uploading entirely due to one or more of the people not wanting to make a video. Research on what? You asked if it was a good idea, there's your answer.
