Is there such a thing as uploading too often, or even uploading too much variation?

I've Got It
I have a gaming channel where I post Let's Plays, usually one video a day. It's very small, and I have only just started out but I'm thinking of branching into other fields. For example, I was considering making an ''Interesting Facts About *insert game name* '' series as that sort of thing really fascinates me. I was also thinking of uploading more videos a day, perhaps 2 or 3 spread out by a couple of hours - make one a let's play, the second a facts about, etc.

My question, or rather two questions are - is more than 1 video a day for a gaming channel too much? Also if I started mixing my content would it drive people away who, for example, subscribed to watch my LP's?

I'd love your thoughts and opinions on this, it would really help a newbie out. Thanks! :)

It really deepens on audience and how long the videos are. If you are fortunate enough to have a very large and active audience then they may appreciate more uploads, if you have a small and only somewhat active audience then it may be better to stick to one video a day. Time also plays a role if you are uploading 30min parts then keeping it to one is fine if its shorter like 15mins then it should be fine to upload twice a day. The problem comes with if you send out to many videos people can't keep up, they start skipping videos, and youtube decides not to show them your content since they keep skipping videos. Uploading more is not bad, but you need to make sure you don't overwhelm your audience :)

As for branching out as long as it doesn't interfere with the main stuff on you channel (lets plays) then creating a new series or trying new things is recommended I used to do straight CoD commentary but went on the side and created a Youtube Beginners Guide and my channel grew a bit due to variation in content. I say try out new stuff see what works but keep a focus on LP's so that people who subscribed for that are not pushed away. Good Luck :D

I had a similar question before... but many people have said that too much content in the early days of your youtube channel can hurt you instead of benefit you. In my opinion posting 3 or more vids everyday is definitely too much.

I used to post 4 a week now i downsized to only 3 a week as i felt it was too much. With putting different stuff in your channel is a good thing though as everyone likes to watch different stuff so variety is definitely good.

It's hard for most viewers to watch all their youtubers everyday, so the pro to this is that they see you more & you don't get drowned in the other channels they watch, but they can also get sick of the same video & too many videos :)

Thanks for the insight! Overwhelming my audience is the one thing I'm afraid of. I only have 5 (very valued) subscribers, and I wouldn't want them to think 'Jeez, three videos in one day, that's over an hour of footage! I'll just skip...' The other problem I get though is itchy fingers, I want to make more videos and show more, but I'm limited to time, computer space and upload speeds... :crying:

Thanks for telling me your own experience with branching out, I'll definitely start that series of mine, just got to think of a good way to lay out the information.[DOUBLEPOST=1426342483,1426342322][/DOUBLEPOST]

That seems to be the consensus so far, so I'll stick to 1 video for now. But I'm glad varied content has a positive impact, it's nice for me too as I can move onto different things rather than doing Let's Play after Let's Play and getting tired of it. :)

Exactly :) so there's a positive for you too, more fun things for you to do instead of the same thing every time.
Haha making videos & editing is fun, i always had heaps of videos ready to upload cos i filmed all the time but i had to keep in mind that I don't want to spam my viewers haha I'll give them a chance to watch their other youtubers & i also want them to look forward to my videos instead of the possibility of skipping them :)

Also try not to make the videos too long.. some viewers may get bored & just stop watching. I try stick to 10mins or depending on what i'm uploading i try not to make it more than 12mins :)

Glad to be of assistance, I know the feeling of itchy fingers it will pass the more you create videos and you'll be able to hold back a bit more :D. If you are super set on creating a new series you could try alternating videos, one day a lets play, then the next an interesting facts , then a lets play again. Since your audience is small it wont hurt you much, and new subscribers will not have to deal with you suddenly changing the schedule on them.

I might look at making my videos shorter then, sometimes it's a little difficult with my content as a game could have a lot of cinematics that easily take up 7-8 minutes. But on the other hand, that means smaller files to upload which is a massive plus on my terrible connection... 60kb upload speed and 700MB - 1.1GB files... Thank you very much for the advice! :D

That's a good idea, gives me time to perfect the video and keeps it fresh for me. Thanks!

See another positive! Haha no worries, i love to help :D
If you feel as if there's heaps of unwanted footage on there, maybe try editing a bit of it out to make it shorter? I don't really know how gaming channels work haha if they just upload the entire gameplay or edit a tad but just another small tip :P

I'm not sure how others go about it but I tend to upload gameplay and cinematics, but edit out unwanted parts as you say (e.g long pauses, lots of game over fails, etc!). :)
