I'm just saying that it doesn't match for views on my channel (regular big drop on socialblade, but not on youtube), so it might as well not match for subs as well.

Yea i noticed i lost a larger chunk of subs yesterday too. Only about 5 but still more than usual. Thought it was weird.

Yes it seems that there are regular purges but I thought that they usually affect dead/faked/bot subs. I never saw one of our big popular subs to removed. Some channels use subbing and un-subbing as promotion tool (there are limits to how many channels you can sub). I hope this is not your case but it happens.

Yes it should be for fake/dead accounts, but it appears not. They unsubscribed us from a fellow kids channel which started a few weeks before us, has about the same number of subs, and a dozen more videos. We always message and comment and watch each others' videos, in fact it is the channel we interact with the most, and YT unsubscribed them from our account!! Go figure...

Sometimes my son hits subscribe or unsubscribe or favorite or some other buttons. Even deleting apps. But the kid factor is probably just a percentage of the unsubscribing.

Vidstatsx website had the option to see to how many other channels certain channel is subscribed. Unfortunately now this is not possible (or at least I couldn't find it). In anyway it was easy to catch channels with thousands of subscribers.
Another theory (and I want to underline that this is just a theory of mine) is that YT algorithm discovers comment for comment clusters of channels and tries to destroy them by unsubscribing channels from each other. But this is just my speculation. Only the YT engineers know the truth.

This makes sense. There is probably an algorithmic component that looks for "suspicious" activity. I used to work for a cellphone operator. We had highly intricate algorithms on the billing systems that tried to identify fraud on the gsm network. For example, the algorithm looked for unusual activity clusters at cell towers - in its early days it picked up a bunch of offshore mobile calls (this was in Singapore and the calls were to Philippines) starting at 3pm from a dozen or so phones. It turned out the phones/sims were stolen and activated and given to Philippine construction laborers at a local construction site to call home. They charged a flat fee. Quite an operation. I guess YT would look for some activity they don't consider kosher.
