Is the Blue Yeti the best microphone for the price?

So now since I have a job I have been planning out how exactly I will spend the money. After I get my computer improved amongst other stuff I really want to upgrade my Blue Snowball. The Blue Snowball is a really good mic so I know Blue makes quality products. However if it is the best I do not know.

What is your thoughts on the best microphone?

I own the blue yeti. However, I have only used a few times and prior to that I have not own any other microphones. I do have extensive experience with the Blue Snowball (about two years) and I will say the Yeti is better then the snowball. According to a lot of online reviews I read it is the best microphone for the price. It does have features like adjusting the gain, and such. One thing to keep in mind, the yeti is quite large and it is metal and could get dented easily. One the other hand, snowball is smaller and plastic on the outside so if you aren't a careful person, I would recommend keeping the snowball. But honestly so far, I like my Yeti mic, good quality and good price, I paid $80 for mine and I think it is a great deal.

I haven't used the blue yeti, or haven't really used many mics since I always use my rode videomic for everything :P I've known people who have had a bit of an issue with the yeti being a bit too loud/sensitive but that's just what I've heard from them I think it has to do with the settings in the computer or something like that, but for the price it seems like a good enough mic when you can get it configured correctly :)

The Yeti is the best for the price if you can get it for about $60. There are always deals to be had. In the $80-$100 range though you would be better served by the AudioTechnica AT-2020.

For general use, the Yeti is a big beastly thing that doesn't mount to normal mic stands without extra cost ($50 proprietary mounting bracket). It picks up keyboard clicks when sitting on a desk which is true of most mics that are sitting on a desk, so getting them up and onto a stand is important. I'm not a Blue mics fan as I find they are overpriced and very much marketed to those who don't have much audio experience (akin to Bose headphones and Dyson vacuums).

If you listen to any comparisons between the Audio Technica AT-2020 and the Blue Yeti, you will notice that the Blue Yeti produces a fuller sound, but it picks up more background noise. The Audio Technica AT-2020 barely picks up any background noise, but sounds slightly congested.

So it's up to you:
Fuller Sound W/Some Background Noise
or
Slightly Congested sound W/O Background Noise

Those are two great mics in the same price-range, so it's up to you to decide.

This is primarily due to the user. The Yeti does a fairly reasonable job at 1-2 foot range but the background room echo and noise causes issues. If the AT2020 is used properly (6-8 inches from the mouth) it gets that nice warm radio announcer sound.

I use the blue yeti and it's a good mic overall and for the price I would say it's would be a good starting point but the only thing is you just have to work around the ambient sound but that's easy to sort out but I would say blue yeti for the price but look around as places sell them for different prices.
