Is the banner really that important?

Content is the most important, but you certainly need to look professional in everything that you do.
 
I believe that banners are important. The simpler the better. Remember that people see your banner now on mobile devices so keep text large and clear enough to read.
 
A banner is so important! It's one of the first things potential subscribers see when they click on your channel!
 
obviously the most important is the content, however a banner shows that you have spent time on your channel page and it looks more professional, even if you made one that is simple.
 
I wouldnt subscribe to a person with no banner because they are not putting max amount of effort into their channel
 
I think it's semi important. It kinda shows of how much effort your willing to put into your channel. and its a good possibility that those that don't have one and have a ton of subs probably had the subs before the banner was there. The youtube layout isn't THAT old.

It just kinda throws together your whole channel nicely.
 
I think banners are important, just because I like seeing peoples customisation, and it gives a really quick, at-a-glance, view of what the channel is about :)
