Is "spamming" really all that bad?

I usually just leave funny comments about the video. Sometimes I get likes on the comment, and sometimes I get subscribers. I admit, I used to spam when I first got on youtube, but I stopped. It is annoying lol. You should create a channel trailer and promote that video instead. I plan on doing that soon.
 
In my opinion if you are trying to use comments as a way of getting views and subscribers, you should be adding value to the original video. A great comment can both add value to the conversation and pique interest in your videos at the same time. Spend time really trying to say something other than "come check out my channel" and you might get some sincere viewers. Just my $.02
 
There are ton and ton of ways to promote your channel with resorting to spamming yuck! Direct message me and I will explain how
 
Damn near everyone who does it is like "Jenna Marbles inspired me to make my own videos, check them out" or "Hey I make videos too! I'm trying to get an audience!" annoying s**t like that.

Mine are nothing like that, they're actually relevant to the video, funny, and take effort, which is why I don't need to thumb them up with 40 accounts.
