Is posting vlogs to Reddit too risky?

Hey, so I already post on sub-reddits such as r/vlogs and r/youtubers but I was wondering if subreddits like r/funny will be a safe place to share my Comedy-based vlogs.

I'm considering putting my most recent video, "Analyzing Lyrics of 2014" onto r/funny since in the video, I basically make fun of popular songs and make jokes about them. Would R/Funny be an appropriate/safe place to share my video? Thanks :)
 
You could try /r/funny, but keep in mind a lot of the media on there are mainly pictures and you probably could be downvoted - a lot.
 
hmmm, what about r/videos? would that be a better bet? And its not really downvotes I'm worried about, more like a wave of spam/trolls/dislikes on youtube :P
 
Reddit is full of trolls. But it's also full of potential subscribers. If your ok with getting a thumbs down now and then; then go ahead and try it out. Just pick the right subreddit and try.
 
In general - Is posting vlogs to Reddit risky? YES. Posting ANYTHING to Reddit is risky. But high risk means high reward if you do it right.

For starters, in all honesty, there isn't much point in posting to subreddits like vlog, vlogs, or youtubers. Those simply serve as a dumping ground for everybody to come and unload their link. Notice how all the posts hover around the default 1 upvote mark and have no comments or interaction otherwise.

You want a major subreddit, where people will actually interact. As mentioned, r/funny is basically all pictures. What would make more sense is r/videos. But when it comes to major subreddits, your posts typically have to filter from the new category, to rising, to a few pages deep in the hot category. And it needs to be well received by the people that are browsing each of those. The people that browse the new and rising categories are extremely critical of content. So what you've made needs to be top notch to make it through those before it reaches the much wider and less critical audience.

As also mentioned, Reddit advises against self promotion. Many subreddits also have a filter that will hide your posts if more than 10% of them link to an individual channel. Keep that in mind so that you don't spam. Contribute to the respective communities with comments and posts and it shouldn't be a problem.

I used reddit for my first Swedish video. I posted it to /r/svenska and had 700 views in about a week. The thing about that is, I'm creating niche content for a niche audience and I posted it to a niche subreddit. The attention I got was about all I could have hoped for. However, when I tried to duplicate those results a week or so later, I got less than half the views as before.
Reddit is fickle, but when it works, it works.

Also, try to have some thick skin if you post to reddit. Anonymity can make people mean.
 
Posting to Reddit is risky business. I post maybe a video a week to the Madden subreddit. Apparently Madden is a hot button topic because people get p****d. I go toe to toe with the trolls though. I ain't scared of nothing!
 
I would be VERY careful posting to Reddit. Although most people on there are hilarious in the most ******* kind of way, they can also just be straight up assholes in general. Redditors (I'm speaking for them, because I'm one myself) don't want to see personal vlogs cluttering up the subreddits. No matter where you put it (/r/videos, /r/funny) it is more than likely going to be downvoted.
People on Reddit aren't looking to watch vlogs, m8. Sorry. :( That's just how the site is.
There is a /r/vlogs subreddit, but it has VERY low traffic. But unfortunately thats gonna be the only relevant subreddit you could post to.
I've tried posting my vlogs when I first started out on Youtube to Reddit and not only did they get downvoted very quickly, but some people even go as far as putting a couple dislikes on the video.
Highly recommend NOT posting on Reddit. People are extremely critical there. Its a hard crowd to please.

You gotta think, would other people share it to Reddit? If so post it. Because if it's a good video it's likely to get shared there anyway, which you have no control of.
