Is Not Limiting My Channel Actually Limiting It?

Wow, kind of a confusing title... sorry, guys. ^^; While I mostly do vlog videos about simple topics (like breakfast and goldfish), I'm kind of starting to dabble into other video ideas, such as advice videos, talks about atheism, some beauty videos.... And that kind of makes my content unpredictable.

I worry that it will cause me to either (1) lose subs or (2) not gain subs as quickly. But at the same time, I don't want to limit my creativity; the channel is for me to have fun at the end of the day.... and how am I supposed to know what I'm best at/enjoy the most if I don't try everything?

I'm at am impasse, I suppose, and would greatly appreciate input.

Since u r still a small channel, I would suggest to go for it!
You should upload variety of videos including the one u regularly do, it should double up ur channel growth!
Some may disappoint but real subs will stay and new subs will com eventually!

Those are great points, Jawad, thank you. You always post such great things on my threads and I really appreciate it.

There's nothing wrong with trying new things, in the end, it's your channel! That said, if you're continuously posting series in an unpredictable manner, realistically you do run the risk of appearing new (a lot of viewers don't like channels that don't have a clear brand) or losing your current ones.

Again, I do think it's a great idea to not limit your creativity! So maybe consider the following before you go head first into diversifying your content:
  1. turning a viewer into a subscriber is all about hooking them with your entertaining and regular videos; the term regular doesn't have a defined timeline, unless you give it one.

Perhaps prerecord and edit a bunch of videos, and once you've accumulated a good amount, decide on announcing an schedule. Clearly stating your channel direction to your viewers will (a) make them feel included in the process (b) will demonstrate that you are an organized / dependable youtuber (c) give foresight for current and future subscribers when they can expect their favorite segment from you!

  2. this is a model that I've picked up from a few marketing textbooks, select 2 - 3 series you would like to try out / integrate onto your channel and post them simultaneously. Post them within a similar time frame, and carry on until you realize which series you want to permanently leave on your channel.
Repeat when you want to throw other video themes into your channel's mix!

  3. devote a weeks for the certain topics you want to upload on. Create a video and announce to your subs, that on the week of ___ to ___, they can expect a week of just videos on ______.
The overtone of any channel change should involve giving your subs and viewers foresight of the changes; it's considerate, and they will appreciate it. Good luck, Maisy!

Wow, that was incredibly insightful and helpful. Thank you very much! I'll start thinking up a few different series now....

Variety isn't bad thing on YouTube, though it may confuse potential subscribers. Maybe you could dedicate each day of the week for a certain topic, and keep to that schedule. Such as "Advice Mondays" or "Rambling Tuesdays" or something like that :)

I'm agree with Jawad, because you're still a small channel I think now would be a great time to have a go at other types of videos. Like others have said, maybe devote a certain day to a certain type of video, that way you don't confuse potential subscribers or your existing subscribers. Definitely go for it, because if you don't try it you will miss out on making some videos that you might really enjoy!

Yes, you channel is still small like people above said, so it's not a big deal. I would suggest mixing serious subjects with less serious subjects to keep it interesting. I think it won't hurt.

It would be different when you do your current videos and switch to Nursery Rhymes singing channel or Minecraft Lets Plays or something :P.

If you're unsure, I do weird song videos and I've done something different 2 times on my channel. It didn't hurt my channel. Yes 1 sub left immediately, but gained 5 back....

Keep your channel to the same catorgry. You don't want music and gaming on the same channel because it'll annoy the subscribers keep it to what you like. Otherwise go with your imagination. Gaming tutorials to beatboxing on cod
