is my friend Cheating?

offbeatbryce

I Love YTtalk
My friend has made 20 reddit accounts and 20 twitter accounts. Each account then has a different name with only one being his real twitter and reddit account. He uses all the reddit and twitter accounts and mass spams people his video. He doesn't spam it all at once but he will pick 4 of his reddit accounts and post his videos in different sub reddits and take 4 twitter accounts and tweet his videos with hashtags (some even unrelated to the video such as what's trending) Then he takes those twitter accounts and tweets the users online tweeting popular singers. He goes through 20 each account for the whole week until he gets 500 views on his videos.

I think he's cheating but my friend says it's not cheating because real users clicked the links to watch the videos and that cheating is only when he's using bots.

"Cheating" is a fairly nebulous concept. There are no 'rules' to how you share your videos or how many twitter accounts you can make. There are some fairly stringent rules he's violating on reddit by doing that, though, so if you know even one of his usernames, you can get them all banned if you want to do that. You can't really stop him from tweeting, though.

The upside is unless his content is actually good, he probably has horrible audience retention and his channel will go absolutely nowhere no matter how much he spams his videos lol

Well my friend claims he met youtubers and they told him to do this. I don't think they do it. Like the popular ones don't. They became popular themselves.

I mean, anyone can be a "youtuber". If he met the kind of douchebag that makes PRANK SOCIAL EXPERIMENT IN THE HOOD GONE SEXUAL content, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave that advice. For those kinds of people, it's not about the quality of the content, it's just about garnering clicks to make money.

Again, that's not "cheating" though. Youtube fully endorses it or SoFloAntonio wouldn't have a channel anymore...

wow that's a lot of work for only 500 views

Yeah, that was my reaction too.

He's doing all that for a week which will earn him about $1, probably less.

Regardless of whether it's cheating or not, what a complete waste of time wow. Some people are so desperate, it's crazy.

Even spam has some success, thats why people do it. Although like everyone said, what a massive waste of time! Imagine if your friend used all that time for better ways to grow his channel

I saw some people sending spamming emails and comments in order to promote their YT channels but is it legit to do that ? if it is not, then why most of the famous social media websites and forums are frequently sending update emails in our mailboxes ?!! Otherwise, this is also another form of spamming.

It's not cheating, it's just botting, well that's even worse than cheating to be honest.
I do not appreciate doing such stuff and I don't think anyone does. He should stop before people are gonna find out :)
