Is Let's playing worth starting up?

I want to record footage of gameplay and produce letsplays but with the whole gameplay monetization crisis, is it worth it?

I just would like peoples honest opinions on the subject, before I drop $160 on a HD PVR.

Thanks.

Do you think you would have fun? If so then yes, it is very much worth it. You just have to see which companies allow monetization (bunch of sites around the internet).

Well, first thing that you should know is that you should never think about money when it comes to starting a youtube channel. If you think about that it would get harder and harder for you to continue because you would ask yourself at one moment ''is it worth it?''
If you have fun with what you do in terms of gameplay and let's plays and you do it consistently, you will get somewhere :3 And you get money in the long run.

Yes a very important question here is are you doing this as a means to make money?(I mean as your first objective of course) If so that's okay, I mean, everyone has to eat, but if you don't actually have some kind of passion or motivation towards what you're doing other than making money, you probably won't go far. However, if this is something that you really want to do for whatever reasons are yours, then you should absolutely go for it.

lets plays are fun, but its also dependant if you do it on your own and what game it is. Such as i like doing minecraft survival with a friend but its soo boring playing it on my own and youtube market is so inflated with minecraft videos and other lets plays. I would reccommend you make your videos unique and interesting. I can understand why u may do it for money because you would obviously want to make back $160 but dont expect it to happen so quickly. Make good and unique videos and you will be fine

When I was starting out I thought the investment wasn't worth it, though I don't know if I would spend 160 dollars on a whim, I would look around before you buy the best thing out there. To test the waters

Short summary:

Fun? Then do it. :)

Entertainment value is what it comes down to I think. Lets Plays aren't my favorite type of video to do, and I didn't start a lets play series until a few weeks ago. However, people really seem to enjoy them. The type of video I normally make is more of a highlight reel. But I think the question your asking is it worth spending money to be able to record game play.

If you're like me, then hell yeah it is. Before I had one view or even uploaded a video to YouTube, I spent countless hours in my video vault for Call of Duty. I found that I absolutely loved editing game play. It didn't matter that at first it was only my roommate seeing my work, it was that I had fun creating it.

It has eventually become a job for me. Money is an issue now, but if I did it for the money, I would have quit already. The game I post on now happened by accident. I started playing a mobile game, starting spending a lot on said mobile game, then starting posting videos on it. I don't regret a dime I've spent, but it was all money I spent to entertain myself.

If you have fun watching your own game play over, editing it, commentating for it, then go spend the money for a PVR.

The way you worded that it sounds like you only want to do it for the money, you shouldn't go into that mindset when you start out on YouTube.
