Is LESS really MORE?

I've noticed some decent and highly successful channels do well only releasing one video every 2-3 weeks.

I'm in a position where I'm wondering if its best to do this rather than 1-2 videos per week. That way it will give everyone a chance to watch the video posted, allowing it to rank and do well in the long run.

I've noticed alot of channels that are upload regularly (7-10 videos a week) "Burn Out" alot of their subscribers or turn them into ghosts and are left with videos that don't ever do very well. I've also experienced this as a subscriber getting too many email notifications from a channel and I just keep deleting them or unsubscribing from annoyance.

I'm 62k subs now and most my vids usually run 10mins some times more.

I have established a 2nd channel for posting more trivial videos too but keen to hear other peoples thoughts, experiences.

Thanks

Well, after they got their name and brand up, I can understand they can do very well with one release every 2-3 weeks... But it's also important the content... a LP 2 times a month wouldn't be interesting to watch :-D

I also experimented to the extreme when I posted every day a video... probably was exhausting for my audience, but for sure it was for me as well... and nothing changed. Now after more experiments, I found out that 3-4 videos/week do just fine :-D

I upload 3 times per week regularly, on 3 different topics, and I have people who come by for only one of the topics per week (especially the long hair videos...those are some dedicated dudes) and they just ignore the rest. I think people who watch daily vloggers consider those channels the way my Nana used to watch her "stories" (soap operas). If it's not on, they won't be happy. :)

I kind of did a little bit of research and watched a couple videos that explained the reasoning behind releasing daily and so forth. If you can maintain your quality while uploading more videos without to many issues than that is better in the long run because it adds the chance that a person will find your video and ergo learn about your channel.

Easiest way of putting it is the shotgun approach. I'm going to talk about my situation, since that is what I've researched the most. If you are producing content at a rate of say a video a week, you will end up producing around 50 ish videos per year. Now compare that to someone who produces twice a week, while not giving up too much quality, and you have 100 videos available and going through the youtube search engine. More videos = more of a chance to hit your target audience.

Mind you, I'm in no way advocating that you need to put serious strain or pressure on yourself to make more. But I personally see the reasoning behind the content output that some channels have. Hell, I'm trying to do that myself with my channel. Plus it also helps that if someone likes what you do, or are interested in you (via word of mouth, your comments on youtube or some other media) that they see that you have more videos for them to "consume".

Repeating myself, not trying to get into a quality vs quantity argument. Personally if I watch a youtuber for the first time and I really enjoy the content, first thing I'm going to do is click on their channel for more/ similar content because I like what they do. Now if I see that they update maybe once a month then I'm going to be pretty disappointed because I can't get my instant satisfaction. That is also another reason why it is important to try to keep a schedule, so people can know when to tune into your channel, along with the promise of more to come.

TLDR: Quality vs. Quantity is an important decision for your channel eg. some people go hunting with snipers, and some go with a bigass shotgun~

^^ wow I wrote alot.

I post once a week. However, I am trying to come up with new series to try and push to 2 videos a week. In my opinion, the more content you push, that is of good quality and entertainment, the better. That means, if you want to put like 1 video as a filler for the middle of the week, I guess that would be fine. Going for any more than that would burn your subscribers imo.

I too have noticed this shift in people wanting "Space" when it comes to their subscriptions. Like somone mentioned email notifications becoming too much, cluttering their inbox and preventing them for seeing their other subscription leading them to get annoyed and un-sub.

You need to find common ground between posting enough to keep people interested but not overwhelming them with content.

I will be uploading regularly-ish but focusing on quality rather than quantity. I will lok over and re-edit a 4 min video for 2 days if I have to JUST so I know the quality of the video is what the same as if I would want to watch.

I myself need to find and strike a balance, trial and error.

Im not sure Less is More is correct.
I know this is an answer that doesnt really help, but it depends on your audience.

If you are posting 3-5min videos playing COD or Battlefield/front you probably can increase your output and stay successful.

If your vlogging and you try to go daily but your stories become mundane because of the frequency then yeah, tone it back to 1-2 times a week.

Me personally, I do scripted comedy news and my maximum comfortable output is once per a week.

It really does depend on several factors.

Agree with a lot of your points however...

This isn't true in regards to more videos means your more likely to grow quicker e.t.c, cos I know of a lot of youtubers who do daily videos for over a year and average 4 views a videos, its all about how much of that audience engage with the video, like & comment, and also the audience retention is a key factor also, that's where growth will come from + also having a kick a** trailor lol :)

Very true. If your videos are generic and boring, you can post 2 videos a day and only get 1-4 views on them.
Where a Youtuber who is engaging to watch could upload once a fortnight and get 1000's of views per a video.

So many factors come into play.
