Is it possible?

Sorry for not being more specific in the title, I just couldn't describe it in a few words. Basically, what I'm asking here is if it's possible to edit the length of a video after it has been uploaded. To give you an example: Let's say I upload a 10 minutes long video as unlisted and I edit its length to show only the first 5 minutes. I publish the video and after some time, I edit it again, so that the whole video (10 minutes) is available.

I tried to do this by using the YouTube Editor but it saves the edited video as a new one and I don't want that. Is there any way I could do (something like) this? Your advice is much appreciated. :)

I have no idea, the best clue I have is to delete the upload and re upload it.
Unfortunately that wouldn't work, here's a more specific example of what I'm planning to do:

I upload a tutorial video (~10 minutes), but only make the first part of it available (~4-5 minutes). Once I got X likes/Y Facebook shares or whatever, I make the rest of the video available - so that's why it's important to have it all in 1 video, the views/likes/comments don't disappear.

As you found out, it replaces the original video. You can always download an MP4 version if you don't have the original file and re-upload your 5 minute edit.

I tried to find a way a long time ago, and I could not.

However, I have seen people do this:
1) upload a shorter version, or just bits as a preview
2) upload the full version as unlisted video
3) share the private video at a later date

Maybe this will help you, sorry if not.

No that is not possible, I think you can set a certain time that the video will start and end if you play them through a playlist but the user can still see the rest of the video if he wants and the rest of the video isn't hidden from the user at all. It is simply skipped and when you hit the end point you are sent to the next video.

The Youtube editor will only let you create a new video unfortunately and deleting and reuploading will make you lose all the views/likes etc. you got on that video.[DOUBLEPOST=1397165717,1397165552][/DOUBLEPOST]Actually @Little Recordings makes a good point, you can just upload the first part as a trailer (although I'd advise you make it shorter if you want to call it a trailer for a video only double it's length) and then at the end of the trailer say when the video will release. It will also look a lot more professional and really make people eager to see the video :).

Basically this. Create an end card on your first video to tease the second half. Create an annotation that reminds people of your goal. Once the goal is met, change the annotation to a link for the new video and include that link in the video description.

That's the best way to accomplish what you want, but be careful about how you do this. Be upfront that this is only half a tutorial (put "Part 1" in the title, even) and make the goal quickly, easily reachable. Your strategy my irk viewers who don't want to jump through hoops or wait for Part 2. If similar tutorials exist they will just search for another and you may earn a reputation as "that guy that only posts 1/2 a tutorial".
