Is it possible to edit a video too much?

I've Got It
My videos have a lot of editing (A LOT!). This means they take a really long time, which I don't mind so much since I enjoy making them, but I worry that because of how much editing is in them I worry they could be going overboard, like I'm going to give my viewers sensory overload or something.
My latest video was especially guilty of this, so I'm just wondering if people think editing can become excessive, if anyone else worries about their editing like I do, or if I'm just being insane and I need to calm down before I spontaneously com-bust or something.

I think you can over-do editing.
I edit my own music videos, so I can throw a bunch of effects in it but I think a small amount of effects is the better route. I feel the effects would become less special if I use them all the time.

I feel like over editing is a thing but at the same time if you don't edit then your going to get no where. So do you and be you, that's what will make your videos oringal

I do feel like this can be a thing. Like if you make a vlog type thing and have a jump cut every two seconds it can be annoying. I guess you just have to find a good medium between to many and not enough.

It's easy to get sucked into editing, I try to keep things simple and give myself deadlines so I don't spend too much time being tempted to over-edit.

I just watched your most recent video and all I can say is WOW, that is some serious editing! That would have taken me a million years. No way could I chug out 6 of those a week (which is our current video load between two channels). Nice job though!

I briefly looked at your most recent video and the editing looks pretty awesome. I could tell you put a lot of work into it. that being said, I think as long as you allow your content to do most of the talking and don't allow editing to dictate your video, you should be okay. for example, you may want to try some new editing and then purposely make a portion of the video so you can utilize that technique. that could be counter productive if it takes away from your content.

No. But jump cuts can cause an overload in your brain because your internal running clock tells you they aren't suppose to happen

Bloody Hell! You're not kidding are you? I checked out your latest video, the editing is out of this world.

Succesful people usually enjoy what they are doing, and it is very clear from your video that you enjoy editing. For me, it was the great editing that kept me watching your batman video from beginning to end. People may debate whether a video can be over-edited, but in your case I would say that your editing is your USP.

Stick with it, I think you could gain a significant following on YouTube if you just continue to do what you clearly enjoy doing.

Jeez louise... That was great editing. How long did that take to make? I would say thats great editing but it doesn't match your audience. Like it's not worth it to spend all that time editing. It's over-editing if no one can appreciate it. When you get bigger then I'd say it pays off for YOU, your audience will probably enjoy it just as much now then if it was edited less.

That's a very important point. I can't remember what movie it was, but Martin Scorsese directed this movie to only have 1 moment of complete silence & because it was the only silent moment, it made that moment more powerful.

I believe Zack Synder tried to use silence in the Man of Steel movie, to make the moment more powerful, but he did it like 3 to 5 times which totally took away from the climatic effect.
