Is it just me, or...

If you don't play games a lot, odds are watching a Let's Play isn't gonna be your thing. There certainly are a lot of game channels, not many of them exceptional, and it makes it extra hard to get noticed in that crowd. I think the reason for being so numerous is that the barrier to entry is low, as long as you have a half-alive computer. With that said, I decided to start making gaming videos myself because I love watching others' Let's Play videos so much, and I'm glad that I did. Even if my channel only grows at a snail's pace I don't plan to stop making videos now since I'm having a blast doing it.

I am also going to start doing some vlogs on my channel, hopefully next week, it just requires me to physically prepare my recording space so that the video quality comes out alright and I'm not recording in front of a pile of junk... ;)

I play video games A LOT. I'm always searching for a new game to get and have rages at my computer for not letting me play the newest games... makes me so maaaad :banghead:
I'm weird, because even though I play video games myself, I really don't like watching someone else play and I don't like people watch me play either, haha. Cuz when other people watch me play, it feels so strange and like I have to do everything right in the game and can't fail the missions and stuff, hard to explain, but I just don't like it. Makes me nervous. I'm also not much of a commentator either when playing, I like playing quietly.
I only like playing not watching.
I guess gaming channels have it harder on youtube, cuz there are all those other gamers that are already popular, hard to be different from them and not get accused of trying to be like them. I wonder if female gamers would have more chances to get known this way? I mean there are so many guys playing and that doesn't surprise anyone, but for some reason, when there's a girl playing, people are like woooow
Is it really that surprising to see a girl play video games? Haha.

Agreed. Even if you check socialblade's partner spotlight, majority of them are let's players ._. Maybe it's the fad right now. I'm a let's player myself, but I also make comedy sketches and parodies on my main channel. I also have vlogs on my second channel. I follow the "Triad rule :D."

... are there a LOT of YouTube channels that only do video games now? I was in the SocialBlade chat room the other day and everyone there kept asking me to check out their channel. When I did, it was ALL video games. Seriously? Does no one vlog anymore, or do sketch comedy, or just rants? I would even settle for a makeup tutorial or something. Is this the future of YouTube? Minecraft?

Totally agree with you!
I do sketches, sick of bad Let's Play channels myself, there has been an extreme over-supply of these channels lately!

Then again 99.99999% of let's play channels do the same games. I like let's plays, but my channels is more of a gaming channel then a let's play channel. But I'm just in it for fun, nothing else really.

Commentary is the key, and there are so many people who are down right terrible or generic by copying their favourite youtuber, it's ridiculous.
