Is it harder today to become big on YouTube than 5 years ago?

Yeah I mean really biiig so yes like a million subs :D But back then you had to be creative too and come up with new ideas. I think its just hard to have a new idea and thus stick out of the competition :D

I think its not that hard. It just takes a lot of time.
Well my goal for the end of the year is 30k subs but being in month number two i see its not possible unless i have tons of money and people connected with me to promote me every video i post to get the maximum use out of everything and be at 30k

I think due to all of the advancements in technology in the past five years alone, we've really made people lazy. I think this is the best time to be a YouTuber. Not a whole lot of people are really willing to put in the work it takes to make it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We've got all these new social media sites now that make it easier and a little more fun to promote our videos like Vine, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

Yes and no.

5 years ago there was a lot less people on YouTube, and even less created videos. Now there are more people on YouTube watching videos.

Sure, there's more people making content then there was 5 years ago, but it doesn't change that much in the long run.

I personally think it's easier. More people on the site watching videos, more people watching your video.

Ive seen more youtubers go from 20k subs to 1m in the past year alone then all the channels who started 5 years ago. Its actually crazy how fast people are growing now ha ha.

There are currently 567 channels with 1 million subscribers, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say your math is way off. It is way easier to grow a channel larger now. It also doesn't take a ton of subscribers to make a living from YouTube.

It truly depends on how you define "big" on YouTube. To me, a BIG channel is anywhere between 50,000-100,000 subscribers. That's a BIIIIIG channel in my eyes.

I don't think it's "harder" to grow, any successful channel has put in a lot of work to grow. If anything, I think it's become harder to stand out from the masses of creators that are now on YouTube. You've really gotta be a unique personality to make it anywhere. Sure, there are a LOT more people on the platform then there was 5 years ago, so there's a larger audience waiting to find you, but you've got to hold up a big sign that says "HEY, OVER HERE" for anyone to notice you.

well Ive seen 5 go from 50k/100k range to 1m in like the span of 5 months. (one did it in like a week 0_0 ha ha) But I still want to get my point across that you didn't see that happening 5 years ago XD. even if I did exaggerate a bit.
or maybe they did... I don't really remember :/

That's a solid point, but the people who DID have subscribers back then, have a TON now.
I was being a bit sarcastic XD ha ha I don't actually know how many people were on back then. I know it wasn't me, I didn't really watch youtube till like 2-3 years ago.
