Is it bad to copy?

Hi guys
If you haven’t seen my other threads soon I want to take YouTube more seriously and start having some fun

The sort of videos I want to film and what I will enjoy the most are random challenges filmed in my bedroom, videos like Marcus Butler, Alfie Dyes, Joe Sugg etc

But I also really want to film pranks. I think these will be mainly filmed outside. Roman Atwood videos is a perfect example of what I like.

I will obviously try and think of my own ideas, but is it bad if I was to copy some of their videos? Some of Roman’s pranks for example?

I suppose if I want to be ‘big’ on YouTube I have to be different and stand out?

Thankssssssssss

There's thousands of pranks on YT, chances are you will probably do a prank (original or not) that has been done already. I plan on making prank vids too, Romanatwood is one of my favorite prank channels as well. IMO its okay as long as you try to incorporate your own style, for example I think he had a "stealing tires" prank. Instead of using tires use a car door from the junk yard or something :D

Just try to give them your own twist and to make them better than the original when you copy.

It's fine to use the same format, as someone said above as long as you have your own style people will appreciate it. Most of these guys probably got a lot of their prank ideas from somewhere else, some even show the Yt comment that inspired them to do the particular prank.

yes! as in copy the type of pranks they do or challenges! yes!
it will get you a lot of views and there are a lot of people that like it.

Are you sure they didn't copy from other people before. You can mix other ideas on your creative way, most important is to have fun and be brave enough to do prank outside. Good luck

With thousands of prank channels, and people pulling pranks that other people pull, I don't see a problem with it. I wouldn't suggest however, that if you do intend on doing pranks, you should learn the laws of your area about public behavior, and what is acceptable (do that for any area you are in, and know your rights). More importantly though, know the rights of the people you are pranking, and what you are allowed and now allowed to do to them. Be safe, and don't do anything too crazy that'll get you injured, or arrested!

It's perfectly fine to be inspired, and putting your own twist on things definitely makes it more original and unique. I emphasize LyWithDragons' point though, make sure you really know what you're getting into and are considering the rights, safety, and boundaries of those whom you're pranking! Pranks are meant to be fun, with the people being pranked able to laugh along. Make sure you're respectful of them. Don't just "do it for the views"!

Agree with what is said here. I would add that copying pranks isn't really a thing, as so much of it depends on how you set it up and execute it, and how the marks react. Yes, the idea might have been done, but your video likely would be 100% unique.
