Is full HD needed?

Given that stats show about 60% of web users have a wide screen display greater than 1280 x 1396, streaming in 1080 P is obviously going to look better.

So you think 720p would look better on them ?
It doesn't matter what is good for that screens.... if you upload in 1080p the option to watch it in 720p will be available for those who want it. I see absolutely no reason not to upload in the highest resolution available ;)

I would say 720p is just fine.
yes go higher if you can but when it comes down to it if you have the choice of higher fps i would say choose that over 1080p

Yep. I said that in my first comment:

You should shoot at the highest resolution possible, given that the general quality/frame rate is not compromised. Many people just watch it at 360p or 720p, but that's why YouTube offers the option to choose resolution, to please everybody, the ones who think more quality is useless and the enthusiastic ones with 4K TV's.
Personally, I think that 1080p is becoming fully standard right now, but if you need less, for example 720p, to take slow motion shots, it's perfectly good.

I've been recording videos in 720p recently. The main reason for this is that most DSLRs have a slower frame rate in 1080p (the frame rate being typically 30, versus 60 at 720p). The main reason I want a higher frame rate is for slow motion footage, but it also looks really, really nice to have those extra frame in there.

I 100% do not regret my decision. I record with a Canon t3i and my slow mo is looking GREAT.

Another thing to try is to record in 1080p and edit in 720p to resize shots without them getting too grainy.

It all depends on your project I guess is what Im saying.
