Is Cyber Bullying 'Made Up'

See mean comment > log out > shut down comput
Yeah, shut down your computer while half your class is trash talking about you on your Facebook timeline. That will teach them.

Its not exactly just Facebook since that happened to me 2yrs ago, I ignored and pretended to laugh during class and didn't reply to anything I saw on social media sites

I think you chose the best way to deal with it. Ignore them, then you're not an interesting target to bully... Because doing anything else (except for beating up the bullies) will most likely result in even more bullying .

And Facebook was just an example. Cyberbullying has various degrees. Sometimes for some unlucky ones, cyber Bullying is very hard to eradicate and nobody does anything to take measures...

Adding to my previous comment: I do have a campaign going called PAST Bullying (put a stop to bullying) To help victims of bullying around my area :P so if anyone who is struggling wants to talk to me then go ahead :)

Cyber bullying is a real issue it can cause people to commit suicide it is an ongoing issue that we should all try to avoid.

Some people play the "Professional Victim" role to gather attention, we got to evaluate who is the bully. If the bully belongs to the victim's people he knows (see workmate, classmate or person that resides in the same place or close to) than it's most likely cyber bullying. Otherwis, if it's a complete stranger, it qualifies as a troll, and the "victim" inflating the matter is just a professional victim
I would say no one likes to get bullied.
After reading your comment though, I realized I know of a comedian that bases all of his comedy around putting himself down. I personally don't find his particular stand up funny, I find it kind of sad and it makes me feel sorry for him. I also know a couple people personally that have a victim mentality. I don't think either of them like to get bullied. They both however find reasons and excuses for why they can't succeed and use it as an excuse to not even try. I am glad I read your post. It does provoke some good thinking...[DOUBLEPOST=1428811065,1428810533][/DOUBLEPOST]

I agree completely that it is a problem. I won't allow my daughter to have a facebook account for that very reason. Kids, and teens can be so mean to each other. Hopefully when they become adults they grow up, and get a little wiser. As an adult, I don't tie my self worth to what comments are made on my videos. I have had some bad ones. I know though if my daughter had those same kind of comments directed at her, that it would crush her.

I agree on that I won't be letting my son have Facebook till he is allot older kids just shouldn't have all these smart phones and ways to connect to the internet it just makes them easy targets.

Generally I've always thought the same way. There's no real reason to give in to cyber bullies on the internet in an age where you can literally block any and all communication with a person. However, young children don't always have the ability to say 'lol f**k this guy' and go on to take it very personally.

In this age of digital communication I think it is very very very important that parents teach their children about the internet at an early age and teach them that people often act like assholes on the internet just because they can. Teach your children ways to block people and teach them to ignore mean comments as much as possible. And in the case of YouTube and other creative outlets, teach them the difference between a bully and someone giving constructive criticism. This is the kind of stuff kids shouldn't be left on their own to find out.

Cyber bullying and cyber stalking are very real. #GamerGate anyone?

In the original post it's mentioned "it's not that hard to block someone or walk away." Most cyberbullying victims do exactly that - they have to leave behind their internet identities, and that's exactly what the bullies want - to bully you into silence and take away your voice and sense of security.

As a youtuber or for anyone who makes a living being an internet personality, you can't just walk away, it is your life. There need to be laws put in place to provide protection to people who are victims of cyber bullying which can extend to real life (having your personal information doxxed and then having to deal with those stalkers in real life is a very serious issue, and there are no protections available for it. You can't really get an internet restraining order.)

Even if you are not an internet personality, having information leaked about you that friends, family, and employers can find can very easily ruin your real life.
