Is Clickbait Ruining YouTube?

I absolutely hate clickbait. People that are overtly trying to make you think the video you're clicking on is something totally different than what it is. But SO many people these days exaggerate their titles and thumbnails. It's at the point where I've started seeing YouTubers that want to make serious videos have to label the title with "(Not Clickbait)".

It especially frustrates me when daily vloggers do this because it seems like they are trying to make a fake reality show out of their lives. Am I just behind the times? What do you think?

The only time it really annoys me is when the title refers to a 30 second part in a 15 minute long vlog for example. When it's truely misleading rather than just trying to peak your interest. I see clickbait as a tool that is just used in the wrong way a lot of the time.

I can't tell wether or not you're behind the times because I've never been one to be with it has it happened. That said, I share your hate for it, as well, I don't like this deceptive way of doing things.

Clickbait is a good thing. It's an enticing title that makes people click on the video what your talking about is using Clickbait the wrong way like you said, making a video that has nothing to do with the title

But so often I see it used the WRONG way but yet still chalked up to be a useful and tasteful way of getting people to click on your videos. I've seen so many tubers that specifically go out of their way to get a picture for a deceptive thumbnail based around something that never happened in the video.

Obviously I would be a fool if I said every time I see a ridiculous title like, "FALLING OFF OF A 300FT ROOF!!?" I believe it, but I still hate the fact that I go into every vlog assuming that the video and title is trying to be deceptive. It's one thing to have a deceptive title and thumbnail if you do scripted narrative work, but when it comes to people that document their real lives, it seems shady.

Yeh I agree with you

Yep, clickbait is the worst. Whenever I use a clickbait-y title I always make sure it has a good majority of what the video is about. So technically its not clickbait right? lol either way the tubers that are doing this for views and like @Sibernethy said not doing things for fun then eventually people will be tired of fake and non-passionate videos.

Click-bait is an annoyance TBH. I kinda wish it would go away but it won't. I'm more concerned about the dirty stuff that finds it's way on Youtube. Youtube is not P**nh*b. That needs to stop.
