Is ASMR really popular now?

I'm starting to see a lot of ASMR done on twitch recently. I checked YT, I see view counts in the millions! Is this a new trend?
 
I think Asmr was really popular a year ago, I don’t really see people talking about it as much as they use to but Asmr channels still do pretty good.
 
Popular a couple years ago. In fact I did create a channel. I paid for all the graphics / intro etc to be made. (I still have it all)
I started to make a bunch of videos. Enough for a week of daily uploads and planning for a months worth.
But I just didnt enjoy making them so I canned the idea.
 
@Ann has a quite a big ASMR channel.
I find it surprising how many people watch these videos. But I would imagine that it isn't so easy to get recognized, because the amount of keywords is quite limited and because most viewers should have their favorite person to listen to.

Oh really? I was thinking of making a channel for it. I seem to have a huge interest for it now. I did 2 on my channel previously, really enjoyed it & and some of my fans do. Looking forward.
