Is an expensive computer overkill?

Hi

I just started recording some of my pizzas and found out it takes zero time to fill up my storage. Iam filming on an iPhone 6s.
I have also edited most on my phone and done the rest on my girlfriends MacBook.
I got a Lenovo think pad that's five years old myself and thought of upgrading since she only got 128gb on it.

Do you have advice?
I would like to buy an iMac if it will get an upgrade this march, but is it overkill? It's pretty expensive.

And what do you do? Can I do it just as easy on a cheaper PC?
 
If you were earning an income from your YouTube channel you could have put the iMac (solely for business purposes) down as a tax deduction/write-off. Are you self-employed? You could still do it.
 
I was editing on my Microsoft Surface Pro 3, which has a dual core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. Oftentimes I would suffer from dropped frames and choppy playback while editing, especially if I had added any effects.

So I bought a Dell computer that has a quad-core i7 processor and 16 GB of RAM and I have no issues with editing anymore. I love it.

He yeah that would be good, but I don't think it will be for YouTube or something I can consider as business only
 
My opinion is you can't go wrong with Apple if you are already familiar with it. Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for. Getting my MacBook was the best decision, especially coming from a Dell laptop. I say if you have the money it is a great investment!
 
What programs do you currently use to edit your videos?

Regardless, video editing and rendering can be pretty resource intensive, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and get a computer with the fastest processor and maximum amount of RAM that is within your budget. Having a decent graphics card would also probably be a good idea, especially if you're doing heavy editing and rendering.

Regarding whether to purchase a PC or a Mac, that is largely a decision where it comes down to personal preference. There are arguments for either one, such as software compatibility, ecosystem, etc.

at the moment i use my iphone ;) and some imovie on a macbook. i find that easy to use!
iam a newbie though.

exactly. I spent 2,600 on a custom PC. has a maximum of 64GB of ram but I currently have 16 and I bought a 8GB video card which is wayyy fast on rendering. I can render 10 min worth of effect in like 3 min compared to an Imac with 2GB of Video card which took 15 min
