is a variety channel a good idea?

I've Got It
my friends and I have a channel where we are planning to make all sorts of videos. right now its only food stuff but we want to do other stuff as well. the channel name is The Harvey Cigar Show so its not aimed towards any certain type of certain genre (like food). we have a lot of other ideas for vids in our heads but just haven't filmed them yet.

i guess im just wondering what you guys think of a youtube channel that has a variety of different video genres.

Also... what are some good channels that do what we want to do if any?
 
My channel contain a lot of different video genres :)
I think it's good to attract all audience, maybe some of them looking forward to that genre, other people look forward to other genre ...
 
Viarity can be good. But u won't overdo it because it gets boring. I would go for a maximum of 3 various of things anything more is boring. I would prefers 2 viarities as most. But 3 is pushing it.
 
That's what I was thinking SlenderMan. And TheSuperFunArt, im not sure how many genres we will have. right now one will definitely be food/eating/cooking. the way I see it is that we will have a few different segments for each genre. what do you think about that idea?

This is where it matters. All depends on the content each of you post. But, if you work together, figure out a time when each of you will upload. Say one in the morning, one midday, one evening (time zone varies etc) then it can work.
 
Sebbparis- its a variety channel yes but we are all making the videos together. we are planning (for now) to upload a video every Saturday. I know that probably isn't the best technique for a successful youtube channel but for right now until we get our video ideas more in stone I think that's what we're going to do. we can only get together on Monday nights with each of our work schedules ( collectively we all work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift. lol) im wanting to do a few videos every Monday, edit during the week, then upload throughout the week.
 
I think that it's a good idea and you should go for it and looking forward to seeing what it is like.
 
cool thanks Click! its already up actually. we only have food related vids right now like i said in the OP. planning on uploading a new video every saturday for now. got one coming up that is food related but isnt like the others where we eat something. im hoping it will bring in a good amount of views once uploaded.
 
Varitey can be fine as long as you can orginise it maybe put the different genres into playlists on the main page of your channel to focas the video's
 
I think variety is great, but don't overdo it like a few others have said. People need to remember you for what you do, if you do dozens of miscellaneous things, it'll be a bit harder to remember.
