Hi all,

From Youtube channel growth perspective is 1 minute + average view duration good?

Some videos are 1.30 mins long, others 2 minutes + and the longest 15 minutes. So on overall average the videos get watched over a minute.

Thanks :)

Channel growth depends on many factors. However, i believe, the most important is how YouTube able to reference your channel videos in the search engine. This depends on "average view duration" more than "average percentage viewed". For example, if you have a long video with an average percentage viewed of 38% and an average view duration of 6 minutes is referenced better than a shorter video with an average percentage viewed of 60% but an average view duration of only 3 minutes.

Yes I'd say it's good. I have several videos 2-3 minutes long and if you're getting 50% or 1-2 minutes average then you're keeping people in. I think as a whole, shorter videos will have higher retention as 1 minute of a 2 minute video is 50% but of a 10 minute video is 10%

Hm, YouTube cares mostly about "total minutes watched" / watch time, or rather session watch time. If those short videos make viewers watch lots of them and then some more on other channels, it's good. But you'd probably get watch time more easily by making longer videos.

Yep, as @Sabrina said, total session watch time is very important. Even if a viewer is tuned in for a full length of a 2-minute video, it doesn't mean as much as a viewer tuning in half the length of two 3-minute videos. The longer they stay on your channel, thus staying longer on YouTube (which is obviously what YouTube wants), the better you fare in the algorithm.
