Intro Duration - Too long or too short?

Good call on trimming the length. But may I ask why?

I noticed a trend among the lesser-watched videos that the people were skipping out at the beginning - quick-hit culture where patience is in short supply. It didn't apply to all videos, though.

And it does help when you receive a comment or two about how long it took for them to see what they wanted - I'm not prepared to re-edit all of last year's videos but all new videos only spend 14 secs intro/outro in total (as opposed to 38 secs I was 'wasting' last year in running times!)

Since you'll be giving a heads up before hand, your intro only contains your channel name? Or does it still have details?

No just my name, a small effect and sound effect and that's it. You'll be able to see it on my next video in 2 days!

On my channel my intro's around 8 seconds long and it tells that name of my channel. Personally I think that's all that intro's should be is just a thing that let's viewers be able to identify you with that video.

Couldn't agree more. The purpose of an intro is to stamp your identity on it and make it memorable and easy to identify.[DOUBLEPOST=1406936090,1406936065][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'll keep an eye out :)

What I have been doing lately is having a semi transparent intro appear as an overlay on my videos, That way both the scene and intro are visible at the same time and moves the video forward instantly.

I just made a new intro, its about 7seconds in total, but a good 3.5seconds is spent fading into the actual content. Thats down from ~15seconds with 5seconds of fading.

This sounds like an interesting approach. Is the intro overlay fullscreen or just part of it?
