Intro Duration - Too long or too short?

Hi all,
Just thought I would see what people reckon to this one.
If you have an intro to your videos, how long is it? Do you use it just to show you logo / title, or do you also mention what you're all about?

The reason I ask is because mine is only 3 seconds long but I feel it does not leave the viewer feeling like I have 'skimped on the meat' to be blunt.

What do you think?

Intros are not really necessary. Unless if you are trying to create and image from the intro such as people will hear your song intro or a snap chat and know you by that.

Personally. I wouldn't make an intro longer than 7seconds. Because people will get bored and click off because you are not getting to the point of the video quickly. Especially if there is an add played by google ads before your video.

Try to grab the audience within the first 15 second of your video.

Brilliant advice :) personally if a video drags on before getting to the actual video itself, I click away. Especially if is blasting some terrible music.

I use an intro, but only after a highlight from the video to draw the viewer into it, I have to versions of my intro as well; the full 7 second version and a 3 second version

That's actually a good idea. So just like a 'in today's episode' and then role the intro? I am also assuming you use the different intros depending on video length?

I think intros should be short, fun, and snappy. A few seconds. I like our intro graphics but they might hurt more than help. If you go to your audience retention in Analytics you can see your average view times as the video plays and for me it usually starts lower at the intro and then curves up, showing that a lot of people skip the intro and move into the video. I may eventually get ride of my intros, I don't want to keep them just because I like them, ha ha!

I don't think that you should lose them all together. Maybe try the approach of putting it in after a quick description of the episode :)

For my next videos, I want my greeting first and after that my intro. That way I think I'll already have their attention for a bit, instead of first the intro. My intro is 6secs long and I think that's pretty ok really.

Since you'll be giving a heads up before hand, your intro only contains your channel name? Or does it still have details?

I cut mine down from a 'shocking' 19 secs - had scrolling titles and music - now 2014 vids only have about 7 secs, just using thumbnail pic (of particular video) and channel theme music I've always used! ;)
