I added you! I'm still new myself but from what I can see the site pushed verified users a lot so "discover" will only send you to celeb profiles. I found that searching for hashtags I think my target audience would like or post about is the best way to find people. Once you find a post or user that catches your eye, go to their profile and engage a ton. Like their stuff, comment, share, and then follow them. That will send enough notifications their way and will probably view your profile and engage back. If they do, I add them as friends. After all that theyre more inclined to check out your channel. I then scroll through their friends and followers and continue the cycle.
Also, adding hashtags into your posts is really important in helping people to find your stuff.
