Input on Starting a Vlog with Existing Channel??? Suggestions?

Hey guys...I've been producing videos and posting to YouTube since 2006. I have nearly 3000 subscribers and just under a million views (OK, I know, not huge compared to some). But all of the videos are related to metal detecting/relic hunting/etc. YT partner, monetized, etc.

I'm interested in starting a vlog to expand my YT presence, maybe increase revenue a bit. I had some questions that hopefully those with experience can help with:

1) Should I start the vlog and upload to existing channel, even though subject material will vary from the original content subject material (metal detecting). But takes advantage of existing audience base, partnered channel, adsense, etc.

2) Should I start a new channel just for my vlog? But if I do, can I connect it to my existing adsense account?

2a) If I do start a new channel, what's the best marketing approach to kickstart viewership?

I know this is long...but I know a few of you have done this. Would you use old channel or start a new one?

Thanks for any input.

Most people/YouTubers put their other videos on 2nd channels or 3rd channels.
I'd say do it :)

Why don't you upload your vlogs under your existing channel & post it under a new playlist. You'll get the benefits of your audience and there won't be a lot of confusion on what to watch. Then they can watch videos on one channel. Good luck! :)

Though it seems to be common belief to separate your videos into separate channels, the new tools that YouTube has updated with actually make it far easier to curate everything from a single channel!

I'll assume that you're a YT partner like myself with that many subs and views - What you can do is create a master "Series" playlist that you curate with all of the specific episodes from that show. (Make a new playlist -> Edit playlist -> Click "settings" -> Click "Set as official series playlist for these videos")

For example, I now have a master series list of all my Internet After Dark episodes that drives people to the next episode after it's done playing. I also curate a playlist of all my older IAD episodes that are a different format in a seperate "Classic" playlist. Further down the line I curate my tutorials, films, webseries, contest entries, and pilots all in different playlists.

It's a lot simpler now to showcase what work you want showcased to your subscribers and new viewers!

I say stick with the same channel and do a little more work on the back end. It saves you having to drum up interest in an new channel.

Wow I just found out about this and instantly made my playlists for my web series into an show playlist, this is great!

To the OP I would like to say that maybe to start the vlogging thing, do some vlogs that are related to metal detecting first. I mean, like show some of the greatest things you've found during your time doing this, explain a bit why you like doing it, etc... Then afterwards you can gradually roll into vlogging about different stuff without it looking totally random.

I would stick with your current channel because building a new channel is insanely difficult and for many months you will struggle to get more than a couple dozen views.

Either way is cool honestly
If you have that loyal a fan base, it wouldnt take much but making a video advertising your new channel and/or advertising your new channel on the videos you upload in the future.

Or the playlist works too.

i say, create a new vlog channel seperate... however... maybe post a video saying to your subscribers what your doing on that channel?
