I'm losing a lot of sleep because of Youtube

So it's 11:55pm right now. I finished editing my newest video over an hour ago. It's only 60% done rendering. Every single night I plan to go to bed earlier to get more rest before work in the morning but every single night I fail. About a month ago I started uploading twice a week to bring some real consistency to my channel and get some consistent viewers. So far it has not been working out but I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

In the meantime I'm chugging energy drinks in the morning and ZzzQuil at night. I'm lucky to get 6 hours of sleep. It's usually less. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I (usually) do a video every other day (Day 1 record, day 2 edit/upload, day 3 record, etc), and I'm usually done around 11-12 with editing, renders in about 40 minutes (~15 min vids, from ~1hr, 720p60), and I just set everything up and let it upload overnight, since my fans are quiet.

It's probably not as bad for me though; I don't sleep much regardless, and if I could, I'd just sleep in and stay up late. I feel more active late at night lol.
I don't generally take any meds or energy drinks, but I do usually have my cup of coffee in the morning.

All I can suggest is try to record shorter videos (something I myself could learn to do lol) if you can, and maybe do something else while you render, to save time.
I make my thumbnails and prepare everything to upload while I'm rendering, so that once it's done, I can just throw the file onto my browser, paste in my description/title, and go to sleep

Hahah me too. I have a lot of all nighters but just because I can't stop fiddling with stuff. When I like something I just can't put it down and lately I have been playing with some photo manipulation stuff to try and get better at it and playing with audio to try and improve and I just can't stop. I start uni again next week so I will need to figure out a happy balance eventually but currently I have the time to screw around and I am having fun with it

Same lol. If I don't have something to fiddle with, then I'll find something to fiddle with.

Like yesterday and today, I've been trying to get OSx to work in VMWare on my all AMD PC.
I have 0 reason to use OSx, and I don't need anything it offers.
Why am I doing it?
'Cause I like to fiddle

haha I'm exactly the same. I can quite often be writing or editing for a video until 2/ 3 am, and then I need to be at my desk for 9 the next morning! But if you ask me, the fact that I can'#t sleep because I'm thinking of ideas and ways to approach videos means I've found something I really enjoy.

I'm so mad at myself. That video I had rendering? I had one of my layers turned off and the final video was useless. I need to start over after work.

But like some of you, I try to get things like thumbnails made during rendering. Saves a little bit of time. The editor is usually a resource hog though.

Maybe I don't take youtube serious enough but I don't find myself doing this at all. I prioritise doing schoolwork/work over youtube most of the time as that is what will most probably get me somewhere in life. I can relate to what you are saying though, just remember its not healthy for your body ;D

I've moved this to the main YouTube forum! ^^

When I used to post a video a week, I would stay up late on the weekends working on videos...It messed with my sleep pattern too much, so I stopped uploading weekly. That probably wasn't the best choice, but I think my real job is much more important than my weekend hobbies. Oh well. Maybe someday I'll find enough energy to upload weekly again, but I don't think that is possible atm.. =/

It really depends on what you want to do. I'd like to quit my job to focus on Youtube. That's why I'm pushing myself so hard. You seem to be doing alright despite your upload schedule though!
