I'm I wasting time by replying to spam comments?

I've Got It
I've heard replying to all comments is good to interact with your audience specially when your first starting. I've been doing YouTube for 4 months, at the beginning I would reply to all but now I get so many comments there isn't enough time in my day. Some comments go to the spam section. I'm I wasting my time by replying to spam? Should I focus on non spam comments only? Why do they even go to spam to begin with?

they you go straight to my spam box so I just delete them. They are a big big pain

I reply to all the comments on my videos because I love interacting with my viewers and it helps my channel. The ones that are obvious spam like "hey check me out and sub for sub" those I just hide from my comments section all together. I would say to reply as many as you can and the ones that are obvious spam just hide and don't reply.

Depends. Are they actually spam? Or just comments getting flagged as spam?

I've seen a bunch of legitimate comments get flagged as spam. Those ones I'll approve, and if it's something worth replying to then I'll reply.

If it's actual spam/negativity/anything like that I just choose "Hide user from channel" to prevent them from commenting any more on my videos.

As for whether you should reply to all comments or not - obviously past a certain point you simply can't. My suggestion: Reply to any useful and unique question comments that you can answer, consider some kind of FAQ videos where you answer commonly asked questions so that people stop asking them, and otherwise just reply here and there.

I noticed most of the spam comments are of other youtubers posting a link to their channel or telling me to subscribe to them. Usually I always get positive comments but recently started getting some negative ones. Thank you for the advise! Now I can spend my time wisely when it comes to comments.

I'm new on YT so my opinion may be jaded because of this lol...but I respond to all of my comments because it seems more personal to my subscribers. I only have a handful of subscribers but they are pretty active. This could also be due to the giveaways..lol..but it's also possible that they enjoy the interaction. Also not all of the comments that go to spam are actually spam. I've had people leave comments that let me know that they've actually watched several of my videos..but they end the comment with.."hey can you subscribe to me..or watch my video..or hey i subbed you" I understand how that can be taken as spam but it's not always the case.

Personally, all comments help to boost your videos one way or another but at some point, you'd feel that those spammy ones are unethical.

If I have a bunch of good ones and a few spammy ones, the latter goes into the bin. I tried responding to one asking for sub with a resounding "NOOOOOOO" and he replied "f**k you". Entertaining!
