I'm having trouble deciding upon my target audience! Please Help?

I've Got It
Please note, before you post here, my channel link is working, and as a result I'd like you to take in my age before you post. I am 13. As a result my retention on viewers over 16 will be significantly lower. As a result, I'm not sure where to aim. My first instinct would be people of roughly my age, but the problem is, my areas of enjoyment are of a higher level than what I can imagine my average demographic viewer enjoys.

Am I being paranoid people older than me won't like me?
Or should I try to do less of what I enjoy to attract a more defined audience?

It's not about being paranoid - it's about whether or not you want to make content for the sake of other people enjoying it. Stick to making things that you personally enjoy making at first. Over time you'll learn what works and appeals to people. You can then start to tailor specifically to those tastes. Otherwise you can burn out pretty quick if you're not seeing results.

I would say keep doing whatever you're doing now. No matter what you do, someone will be interested. I checked out your latest video (the cheater on minecraft) and I was impressed by your commentary. You have good audio quality, you have a good commentating voice. Obviously it is not perfect, but there is always room for improvement.) I am 14, and I make gaming videos, and a lot of my viewers are older, but I do not make videos for a certain age. Just keep making videos, and do your own thing and you will get somewhere eventually! I mean, you just earned a new sub! Isn't that something? :D

I think you should do what you enjoy and if the people that are older than you don't enjoy your video, then that's fine. At least you will have the experience which is somewhat what it's all about.

Just stick with what you enjoy. If it makes you feel any better, my target audience is roughly 15-23 "mid-mature" people who have the same humor I do but my demographics show 18-24 being 60% of my audience then 35-44 being the other 40%...

I am glad you started this thread, as I definitely have something to say! (What else is new?) When I started my channel seven months ago, I assumed for some reason that my audience would be high school girls. Don't ask me why I thought that, but it just seemed to make sense. Mind you, I have never made content with that audience in mind--I just make the content I want. Anyway, I now have enough Lifetime Analytics to see my demographic, and its 75% male, mostly in their early 20s. I never would have guessed that. So, yeah, do your own thing, make yourself happy, and the right audience will come.

btw, most of the channels I subscribe to are run by teenagers, so I certainly don't think an adult will avoid your channel just because of your age. However, I also have the emotional maturity of a teenager, so I am probably not the best person to ask.
