I'm Going To Sound Like An A-Hole, but....

Loving YTtalk
Someone with 1/6 the amount of subscribers as myself and their most popular video has 400+ views (my most popular one has 45,000+ views) is trying to give me advice on how to improve my channel.

Look, I don't mind good, honest advice but if you haven't had much success with your own channel, you're not in a position to dish it out to others.

I know, I sound like a d-bag today.

maybe just a small d-bag :)

while i totally understand where you are coming from. some people might have expertise outside of their youtube channel and just do this for fun, for instance. i have a tiny youtube channel and yet have helped a couple of large recruitment companies with web design, SEO and marketing stratagies. i just do youtube for a bit of a fun hobby

also. if you think more views = more talent in someway. that would make pewdiepie the most talented man on youtube. think about that for a second lol

I have to agree with @Lyth on this one, everyone has their own strategy to becoming popular on YouTube, but anyone can give good advice towards anyone. It's human nature to help other people that they THINK need help, perhaps the person didn't know you have that many views or subscribers, maybe he's a loyal fan and just trying to give you tips. None of us is perfect and it's up to us and some others to help learn from our mistakes.

So, here's the deal: different experiences = different learning outcomes. Therefore, because everyone has had different experiences they are able to provide you with more perspective as a creator. By failing to hear them out or listen to them, you're only hurting yourself. At some point in time, you will probably make the same mistakes. Perspective serves to make you more well-rounded as a person. All advice is good advice.

Well the question is not if he has a big channel the question is whether he is right. Some reasons that he is small have already been mentioned. Some others would be that you haven't found his main channel yet or that it's more difficult to grow in his niche.
You will have a long time if you are waiting for advice from channels that are bigger than yours. That someone is offering you a gift. Who are you to reject it?
Your most successful video may have 45k views but from what I can see your average is a lot lower.

I got a couple of those comment too. Most of the time, the recommendations are to 1) maker short videos, 2) cut content, and 3) skip cut scenes, none of which I'm interested in.

With millions of advices coming all around, with many contradicting each other I can understand your perspective. It's good to research the person's credibility. But my bigger concern is how this is affecting you. How about you just ignore the person instead of ranting all about it? If you get upset about this at your current channel size, how are you gonna handle it when you're 10 times bigger and there's 10 times more smaller channels trying to help out?

Sometimes we fail to see things we have done wrong and need another persons perspective. Maybe the tip he gave you was that missing key to unlock so much more potential on your channel. Maybe the fact you see yourself as being better than someone just because of a number is your issue? I don't know.

I give advice on here and know a lot about Youtube (I think), but I am crap at making videos. I only have 140 subs now and my max views is 1000 on a terrible video but that doesn't mean I do not know what I like in someones video and what makes me subscribe.

Just like when I follow the footy, I know not to play Sterling because he is as useless as your attitude is, but just because I am not England manager does not mean I am wrong.
