If your Subscriber count only reflected active users

I've been thinking a lot about this lately - especially since I recently clocked over 1,500 subscribers on my second channel (which I guess is now my primary channel - despite being only a little over 2 months old)...

What if your Subscriber count ONLY tallied those who actively watch and interact with your videos?

You would still see a count of those who have subscribed, but don't watch - but in a separate area. Perhaps with a count of viewers who have watched more than one of your videos, but haven't subscribed.

Though it would probably give everyone's egos a punch (including mine) to see their numbers deflate - I think these numbers and analytics would be far more useful. Perhaps you need to encourage people to subscribe at the front of your video if you have more viewers unsubscribed than subscribed. Perhaps you need to get the word out and advertise to help bring back the views from those who subscribed but stopped watching.

But what do you think? Would you find this useful - or is your Subscriber count too much of a status symbol to bother recalibrating?

That would certainly be interesting. I do wonder exactly which YouTuber has the most active subscriber base (I can only assume it's PewDiePie). Something like that would really put a spotlight on the struggle of smaller channels. Just because we get subs, doesn't mean they're active.

I'd even wager that it's difficult to manage large scale audiences - as viewers demand and expect more and more interaction from those they follow. I feel like those who have the time/ability in social media management fair far better with larger active audiences

I've wanted this stat for a long time. Although a little more in depth. What I would like to see is a measure of the number of individual users who watched a video in the last 30 days and also what the split was between subscriebrs and not.

Though it's a little slow (behind by a few days) I've found that you can pull the view (and retention numbers) off of individual videos.

In the Video Uploads page, you can click on the "STATS" pop up on the right hand side (the widget that shows the total views for that individual video).

It won't give you the subscriber numbers - but it does display a lot of useful daily info.
