Idea To Fix Broken Copyright System

Hey guys,
I know that everyone knows just how much of a disaster YouTube's copyright system is. Essentially, in the middle of the night, your whole channel can disappear through no fault of your own. Contacting people at YouTube or at the company making the copyright claim is damn near impossible. You know the rest.

But what if instead of the current system, whenever someone files a claim, YouTube tells you about it and gives you the opportunity to delete the video or the upload a version without the copyrighted content? Right now, you do not even get a chance. The video just disappears and your channel gets a strike. I guarantee 99% of creators on YouTube, if contacted by YouTube essentially saying, "We have a claim on this video, you have 24 hours to delete it or get a strike," Everyone would just delete the video themselves, and avoid a strike.

this is so true, youtube should make the system like this.

Check your copyright claims in the channel section under status and features section, they give you ample time to fix, challenge, or delete it. Any issue I've had with copyright claim I've had more than enough time to get rid of it. You need to keep up with your video for a few days after posting to give time for any claims to come in.

YouTube needs to punish users who upload copyrighted content. They would very likely face legal action if they didn't. Think about all the copyright problems YouTube would have if it continually allowed people to reupload full-length movies for example.

YouTube's copyright system is not broken, either. It's amazing system that works remarkably well. Takes less than 30 seconds to dispute a Content ID claim, and around the same to file a counter notification if you receive an erroneous takedown. It is not perfect, but I do think Google has done a very good job with it.

Youtube couldn't punish everyone because some have permission.[DOUBLEPOST=1454985345,1454985319][/DOUBLEPOST]

YouTube already has this. It's called "dispute."

I think you misunderstood what I said, I'm not talking about an algorithm that detects "copyrighted" content, I'm talking about keeping the strike system in place for those who are proven to have infringed on others copyright, and when the copyright owner has chosen to take down a video, the user should be punished. The original post essentially said that users should be allowed to do what they want, but be given the ability to delete the video prior to being punished.

I understand that the system needs to work the way it does--but only for some people. For people who make an account to upload full movies--yes, it works well. For the top partners/creators, who have, let's say over 40,000 subscribers or so, and make quality content and follow copyright laws, it should work how I described. If you have been on the site for a long time and have a large channel, and someone files a claim against you, you should have 24 hours or so to remove the content and not face a strike. There is no difference to YouTube/the claimant, you learn a lesson if you indeed did break copyright rules, and your channel is not punished in the even that the claim is false. Established content creators who have proven that they follow the rules should not have to worry about their channels disappearing at a moment's notice.

That won't work because copyright owners have agreed to allowing them to let certain content on YouTube and get paid by the ads.

I am not suggesting to take down all copyrighted material. Majority of copyright holders want people to upload their content so they get the revenue, myself included.

What I'm saying is if they want the content to be used and they receive revenue then fair use isn't even an option if the owners are allowing it.
