i5 3570k Overclockers!

I've Got It
Hey guys!

I'm revamping my PC and ended up choosing the i5 3570k as my CPU (couldn't stretch the budget to the i7 and figured my new build next year would see me with the i7-3930, so that's another almost complete rebuild).

So, I was wondering how far people on here had pushed their i5's while retaining stability? I am thinking of 4.3 - 4.5?

Cooling wise, I have - x2 120mm fans, x1 80mm fan and the CPU is water-cooled.

It's driven by a 750w Bronze-PSU (again, couldn't stretch to Gold. Maybe next year...)

Just saying, the i5 3570k is really good. No need to upgrade next year unless you're doing work where you need the extra cores.

We shall see how the year goes! But you're no doubt right - I chose this particular core on its positive reviews.

I'm currently on the Intel Q6600 and 4Gb of RAM, so I know the i5-build will be a powerhouse by comparison.

I used to have a Q6600 with go stepping that was amazing, when I upgraded to the i7 920 I was amazed at rendering time difference. I have never had an i5 but I can imagine it being a very nice upgrade for you. My current system has 6gb ram and I find it sufficient myself. My girlfriends got her new pc parts coming this week and for the first time ever her pc will be better than mine :D i7 960 with 8gb ram and a lovely Asus board. Are you getting more ram?

Glad to hear someone's done something similar! I am really hoping to bring down my render times :(

RAM-wise, I have 16Gb (1800Mhz) but will be buying the same RAM end of next month to max it out at 32Gb. I was reading that the memory was also designed with Overclocking in mind but I've never touched on it so I have learning ahead...

Sort of, I did upgrade the board at the same time. My old board was this board:

Loved it :D

I probably should upgrade my RAM but I am tight when it comes to RAM, I dont want to upgrade because I would ideally want to upgrade to 8gb sticks x 3 or 4 but that would render my current 3x2gb sticks useless for me as I dont plan building a new machine any time soon for myself.

It would be awesome having 32gb just to feel the difference when multi tasking although I dont tend to multi task too much, probably why 6gb works for me at the moment.

I know that feeling - it's the reason I put off upgrading for so long haha. I didn't want my 4Gb DDR2 to go to waste but I also didn't want to buy another 4Gb of RAM as DDR2 is expensive compared to DDR3. I also have a stockpile of 250Gb HDD's that I don't want to bin, even though I won't ever use them again. I'm probably going to give them to my friend.

If you game with friends, have you thought about building a small PC to use a server? I think I'm going to do that with my old computer, rather than selling it. I'm not a big Minecraft fan, on my own but with friends, I find it great. So a small PC running as a server - woo! I get to keep hoarding tech :p

The 32Gb thing - I don't know if that is performance I'd use or if I just really want something silly. But the 16Gb RAM (8x2) are £120 a go, so I will have to think very hard to justify it before I consider getting the second set.

16 gb RAM is a must for todays editing and rendering. I have same CPU and if i render with CPU only its not the greatest. I have GTX 670 SLI and when i enable CUDA Rendering it nearly triples the rendering speed from the CPU alone.

Do you have x2 670's and run them in SLI? or is it just the one? If I remember correctly, the 670 is one of the cards with 1000> shader cores - would certainly help that CUDA processing! :D

I don't know if my graphics card is CUDA supported... I should look into that.
