I Thought My Friends Would Support Me...

Friends and family are great for a lot of things, but promoting anything you do is a really tough thing to ask of them, because most people don't know how to promote, and don't feel comfortable promoting to others. Think of how tough it is to promote your own channel. Now take yourself out of the equation and think about how much effort a family member or friend can really put into promoting you. Honestly, they have their own lives, and they don't really know much about what is good promotion for a YouTube video.

Same for subscribers or viewers. People who like you probably aren't into exactly everything you do, and YouTube is a pretty niche thing for most people. I only started subscribing to folks when I started growing my hair out (because I wanted to remember the guys who I followed), but until then, I had no idea what "subscribing" to YouTube meant. For me, YouTube was a place I went to learn how to change the oil in my car or to find an old commercial I remembered from back in the day, not somewhere I'd get regular content.

The people you want to be watching your content and promoting it are the people who are on YouTube all the time and will watch for a good long time. So, while family and friends are awesome for many things, helping your YouTube career probably isn't one of them.

Good attitude, man. It's easy to be bummed out about something like this, but the best thing you can do is keep moving forward.
