I started my channel but no one knows it exists :(

I can only agree with above sayings. But there might be something more:

Personally I don't even have time to create new content every week (as I have seen a lot of people saying it's the only way to grow). I'm probably gonna create like 5-10 videos / year right now, but try to have some substance in the videos, either it's entertaining, educational maybe exciting (I really don't know, I think I'm saying - don't create boring content :D ).

The think I CAN do however, on a daily basis, is to drive traffic to my channel through different mediums, like Instagram, Facebook or Googles web search using smart titles for SEO. As of today, I have grown to 25 subscribers using this strategy actively for about 1 month. I don't think it's really common for people to unsubscribe due to non-frequent content but that hypothesis will time answer :)

Yeah my short-term anecdotal evidence over the last couple months is that I went from 6 subscribers to 30 primarily by sharing new videos on Social Media. I use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and message boards similar to this one that pertain to my content (hiking and backpacking). These are all places where I've had a presence for years so I'm a known commodity - I'm sure that helps some. But if you don't share your new content on other platforms I'm afraid no one will know about it.

But remember that even if people watch your video, they may not be logged in to any profile on YouTube so in that case they wouldn't be able to subscribe.
