I started here, now I've got 37,000 subscribers, ask me anything.

Hi folks, been at the YouTube thing for almost three years, haven't been here in a while. Lots of folks here helped me when I started out, so I figured I would start a thread to help others who are just starting or struggling. Maybe something shared here will get you over the hump. Ask me anything.
how did you promote your channel when starting out?

how did you promote your channel when starting out?
I have a niche channel that focuses on emergency preparedness and survival information and gear reviews. When I started out, I signed up for EVERY forum I could find on the subject and even ones that remotely had a relationship to the subject. I would then post each video in these forums. It was a LOT of work, but I quickly gained subscribers and views. Persistence pays off.

Hey man, I know how you feel. I've been doing the same thing, one of pals on this website also recommended [Edited by Staff]. I gained quiet few views from there and it has been working. What other websites have you guys been using?
I don't really post my new videos elsewhere anymore. Forums are a great place to share them as the interest is still natural. I avoid gimmicky sites as the chances of someone actually being interested in viewing your videos is pretty slim. I instead focus on production and let the videos speak for themself.

What did you do when it came to SEO? Did you do research on what tags to use or did you just use words that specifically described your videos? Congrats on 37K subs, hope I can get there one day as well!
Whether I am right or wrong, my SEO is simple. I start typing the main topics of the video into the YouTube search bar and add into the tags what YouTube suggests. For example, I recently did a video on "How to pick a lock". I typed in "How to pick a lock" and added in everything YouTube suggested.
