I already placed this in my intro a couple of days ago but I was told that it was more appropriate to place my question here :)

*kroo* Anyway...
The reason why I joined YTalk is because I have been considering making a VLog channel. I do have a YT account, but I mainly use it for commenting, subscribing, etc. on other people's channels. haha.

What made you create your channel and put up videos?
How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?

Hey there! I am very new to YouTubing vlogs, so either my reply is irrelevant or spot on! I love watching YouTube vlogs. I follow quite a few famous YouTubers, and they all seem to be having so much fun. One day it occurred to me that I have stuff to say and thought it would be fun to vlog.

I don't have a specific area of focus, which is probably a bad thing in terms of getting subscribers quickly, but I am far too random of a person to find one thing to talk about. I did a ton of research about setting up YouTube channels and then started. (I wish I had known about this forum then, as everything I figured out is easy to find here.)

I don't really have to make myself do this because the process of recording, editing, and posting is so much fun. I am always a bit nervous that I will have nothing to talk about, but so far (10 videos in), that hasn't been the case. Having a general focus blog means everyday events have the potential to become a topic.

Aside from all the good advice here, this forum tis awesome because it has allowed me to see what other vloggers are doing. I have subscribed to a bunch already, and they inspire me to come up with better content and present it in a better way.

Bottom line: if you would find vlogging fun, go for it!

I guess I have rambled on a bit too much. This is a bit like my raw, unedited videos.

What made you create your channel and put up videos?
The first video I made is because I wanted to make something for an artist I love and I wanted to try stop-motion animation so I made a lyric video! :)

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
Well, the views and likes and subscribers just flooded in after that first video and after that when I began making vlogs, I joined forums, told all my friends and family about it on Facebook and Twitter and I just tried my best to get anybody to check my channel out.

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
Vlogging is the easiest and most comforting for me to do because the good equipment for gaming is expensive and I cannot do beauty. Animation could be a choice but I have no ideas at the moment but vlogging just seemed right for me because I like talking :)

As many others, I've been inspired by people in my niche on YouTube and figured "Why not give it a shot? :P".

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
I don't do much promoting, I just focus on my tags and the quality of my content since the type of videos I'm making (cover songs) are quite searchable which is nice - but then again there are a lot of musicians on YouTube so it's also quite competitive. :P

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
Well since I'm passionate about playing the guitar it wasn't really hard to figure out which direction my channel would go. :D

Do you not worry about strikes dude? I've thought about doing covers to get my channel more noticeable but I'm so worried about getting a strike on my channel I never do it. Your channel is quite large and gets loads of views yet you don't seem to have a problem with that, is there something I'm missing or do you just risk it?

I made mine in 2010 and basically used it for random videos and nothing serious at all other than commenting etc.
Only in 2012 I got an idea for a gaming series I could make and that inspired me to take youtubing as a regular hobby.

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
I just made videos and after a year's time I started reaching out to the game's facebook page and they decided to share my videos there. I also started making more interactive content to connect with my viewers.

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
It defines who I am and how I like to live my life so I went with gaming, it's something I enjoy doing and probably won't stop.

Your channel should be a part of you, so do something you enjoy doing. It should be fun for you.
 
Oh right, as for the OP. This is my best advice. On your channel, pick the niche that you think you can have the most fun with and be compelled to do the most, and just do it. This is not about guessing what youtube wants to see, it's about figuring out what you want to share. Don't overthink it sweety, just do it!

I wanted give myself another reason to practice the guitar, So I thought YouTube would make me publicly accountable. I was also curious about what it would take to have a successful YouTube channel (I still am!).

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
You only live once. Its such a shame when people make plans but never get around to it.

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
This was easy for me. I've been playing the guitar for over 40 years. That's a lot of experience to draw upon so I can't imagine running out of ideas!

What made you create your channel and put up videos?
I started making YouTube videos because I felt like I was a knowledgeable person in the field I was creating videos in. I thought that if I made interesting videos on stuff people may not have seen before, I could get some people to watch them. I was just a crazy kid with an idea.

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
When I first started YouTube in December, I was getting nowhere because of several reasons: my quality was terrible, my editing skills were bad at best, my voice was monotone, and I knew nothing about SEO. I spent a lot of time on this site trying to learn some techniques to improve on all of those fields. I did improve, and now I am getting almost 300 views per day. I know this last bit isn't necessarily my story, but do not use sub4sub at any point. It is a trap that many people fall into that falsifies their subscriber number which makes it more obvious that you don't have a legitimate subscriber base.

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
Well, I make pokemon videos. The reason I picked to do that is because I am really passionate about pokemon. You should pick something you enjoy talking about, and have fun with every video. Here's another little piece of advice that could go along with this; Never base your YouTube success on how much money you make from your videos. You should make videos because you enjoy doing it, not because you are going to make tons of money.

I started my first channel in 2008, where I wanted to share my passion for the popular nintendo character Kirby, hence the name UltimateKirbyFan. Then came the copyright strikes of 2010 and I had to jump ship. So I started my UltimateKirbyBoi channel to start fresh. Then I strayed from gaming and Kirby and thus rebranded as donukb.

How did you make yourself get out there and do what you do?
I post whatever I want. Please, I don't listen to nobody.

And how did you decide on what category to go on...like gaming, beauty & style, etc.?
It was a slow transition, but I love comedy and I love sharing what I know. Thus vlogs became a perfect combination of the two.
