I just put a song in my video (HELP!)

Posting Mad!
So i just put a song in my montage, its under creative commons 3.0. So i can't monetize it. Problem is im partnered and my videos monetize automatically. So i just unchecked all the ad formats in the monetization options. I credited the artist accordingly, im still worried though because i don't have commentary in it at all. Its a mw2 montage. Any tips for anything extra i can do too avoid getting a copyright strike?

Well, if you're that worried, you can always just take out the song and use something else that is royalty-free...? :cat2:

Exactly. Not sure if you're aware, but you can use the Audio tab (go to Edit your video directly on YouTube) and replace your original audio with royalty free music. It'll strip out all your original audio, though, including any sound fx from the game. Might be best, though.

If the song is under Creative Commons 3.0, you should be completely safe to use it monetized, or not as long as you credit the artist(s) accordingly.

For all that it'd be better to remove it and just edit it without the music haha but im gonna keep it up and hope for the best![DOUBLEPOST=1383623201][/DOUBLEPOST]

It says under the creative commons license i can't monetize it. But thats okay i guess cuz i took the ads off, im just hoping for the best. On the artist soundcloud he says anyone can use it as long as they credit him so i think i will be fine. Im more worried about youtube just flagging it or something.[DOUBLEPOST=1383623306][/DOUBLEPOST]creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/

Ahhh, the non-commercial CC3.0 license; Kevin MacLeod's site incompetech is completely royalty-free, and can be used with monetization under Creative Commons 3.0. The most Youtube will do to a video usually if it's a smaller artist, they will un-monetize your video. But I find issues are with signed, larger artists where you will get flagged as copyright.

I suggest you message the creator directly and see if you can get direct permission, screenshot his response if he allows it and you can use that as "written permission" for monetization. :) Be professional and courteous and he should have no problem with it. Hope I was some help!

YouTube won't flag it as there shouldn't be a content ID match for anything under creative commons 3.0. If there is, it would most likely be a 3rd party company trying to make money off your video.

You are allowed to monetize it. "You are free:
  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • to Remix — to adapt the work
  • to make commercial use of the work"
